Thoughts? Ideas? Hey guys! I don't know about your Yorkie, but Katie Scarlett adores sitting on the window sill in our den (aka Man Cave...LOL). Our couch has a chaise lounge that sticks out from it. Is is set up next to the window and I put a pillow propped up between the couch and window sill so she can walk right across. She doesn't jump up/down from there. I raise the window a bit on nice days (it has a screen on it so she cannot jump out) and she will sit there for hours listening to the birds, watching cars/people go by. She just loves it. But I was noticing today she was having a hard time getting comfortable. She has gotten a little bigger since she first started hopping up on the window sill. I got to thinking... I wonder if I could make her a custom made pillow for the window seal? Like one that would run the entire length of the window sill. She lays in many different spots up there. She doesn't seem to have a preference. I was thinking I could take some leftover fabric from a project or get new and make a basic rectangular pillow. What do you think? And what do I stuff it with? I've never made a pillow before. I know that is basic and I'm sure I could do it, but what type of stuffing? I am thinking this would need to either be washable or have a removable cover so I could wash just the fabric part on the outside. Any ideas? Thanks guys! ;) |
Like a king sized bed pillow? |
Amyee, I smell experiment on the way! Now is the time to learn how to make a pillow! At Walmart, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby they do sell pillow forms which are foam pillows you sew the covers for. I always use a trash bag to cover them before a formal cover is put on....makes the pillows waterproof and makes the cover come off and on much quicker, but will make a slight noise when KS shifts position. Or if you want to stuff it yourself the stores sell stuffing in bags in the sewing or crafts dept. Or you can buy regular bed pillows and re purpose them..... Many patterns have doggie beds and things like that, but you know that.... I would look at pillow shams to see how they are made and let your mind envision how to make them......... This will not be as hard as the bag carrier you made.. NOW THAT WAS HARD!!!!!!! LOL |
I had my last home cutom built. One of my customizations was a large, low boxed out in the living room. The ledge was only about 10inches of the ground, 16 inches deep, and 7 feet wide. I bought foam (3-4" thick) at a local upholstery store. They were kind enough to cut it to the exact size I needed. I made a cover for it out of plain muslin. And then made a zippered top cover to go over that, out of fabric that coordinated with the window drapes. It looked great & lasted for years. Chelsea spent most of her time :) |
You guys are so fabulous! Thank you for all these wonderful ideas! I'll definitely be doing this project soon! :) |

I would definetly go with foam. I am not sure what stores you have near you but I purchase my foam from a store that sells only foam. I can get some amazing deals as some pieces are "leftovers" from a larger piece. Funny thing is some of these remnants are HUGE! Compared to the cost at a fabric store there is no contest. My last foam purchase gave me a crazy amount of foam for under 10 dollars. I am sure that you will come up with something incredible as all of your projects turn out GREAT!!!! |
Thanks for all your great ideas guys! I really appreciate it! |
