There are many post in which some one is the best answer. i will think about that. thanks. |
I love the tulle peeking out from under the one dress. Really creative! I have two full bolts of tulle from our oldest daughter's wedding. Does anyone know if tulle can be died?? All of these ideas are fantastic! |
thrift shop finds I'm going to start sewing dresses for my little girl. I've started a quilt for her first. After I bought all I needed, plus pattern for a dress, it costed me over $30.00! So I decided, why not make my own. Well, I started hunting in thrift shops and I've found so many pieces of fabric, tulle, lace ribbons, and vintage lace collars, and printed trims. It all probably cost me $50.00, and as you know our little babies aren't big. So a piece of fabric and everything else you need to embellish it isn't much at all. Can't wait to start!!!! |
3 Attachment(s) These tips are helpful with organizing your sewing space. I find it a bit of a pain to follow the steps in a new pattern due to lack of space to have the instructions open. I came up with an idea that is working really well. I have put up a corkboard on the wall over my sewing machine and I pin up the instructions. It allows me to follow the steps by simply looking up. Aside from sewing clothes I also make dog hair bows and have a TONNE of ribbon. I had been looking for an organizer but all of the commercial organizers held only a fraction of the ribbon I own and at a really high price. I came up with my own organizer design and its working great. Supplies needed. wood boards 1x4 or whatever you prefer. dowels 1/4 inch works well white glue or carpenters glue saw drill Decide how long you would like your ribbon holder to be and cut. Determine how long you want each dowel to be. Dowels are used to hold spools of ribbon. To decide where to drill my holes I placed ribbon side by side flat down onto the board leaving a cm between each spool and marked the center of the hole in each spool of ribbon. I then drilled holes 1/2 way into the 1 inch of my board. I used a small amount of glue in each drilled and inserted the dowels. I wiped up any excess glue and 12 hours later I had ribbon organizers that cost me less than 10 dollars and fits all my ribbon. I bought thread holders that stand up to hold some of my thread. I was finding however that desk space is at a real premium so to conserve space I drilled a hole in the top of each side at the top and then screwed them onto my wall over my sewing machine. Much more convienient and less space Hope you can understand my directions if not let me know and I will try to clarify :) :) :) |
What wonderful tips Tina! I need a cork board like that! Love the ribbon storage too! |

I so wish I could sew!!!! I have to hand sew everything and now with my arthritic hands I cant do much of that. So many great ideas! I love to craft, I have a room I use just to do that but never learned to sew. It just didnt interest me. I have always said if I can screw it, fuse it, staple it or glue it I can make it . LOL To buy these little clothes is too expensive for me so i have made her a couple sweaters from socks and my son sent her a couple outfts. You all have the best ideas!! |
These dresses are cute and everyone is so creative but what about the boy's ... where's the love. I don't sew but most boy shirts are not very cute. :p |
