My Progress So Far... 2 Attachment(s) Hey guys! Well today I started on my first dog carrier purse. I wanted something to have with me for KS when we go home to Alabama for vacation soon. I used an OOP Simplicity pattern. I will post a pic of the pattern I used. Now, I know I am still learning all of this stuff but this pattern was so hard for me to read. So to be perfectly honest after much confusion, I decided to wing it and go by the pictures the best I could. LOL. IDK why they have to make these patterns so confusing. But for following pix and trying to decipher as much as I could, I am happy so far. I am not finished with the carrier. I still need to add the bow to the flap that closes over the top. I also need to add the velcro for it to close. I also am going to add some more trim to the inside around the top to help cover up a boo boo or two. No one will ever know...well except you guys! Ha ha! I also am thinking of either having KS's initials monogrammed in pink on the front of the bag, or going to Hobby Lobby and getting the iron on one's and doing it myself. The bag has a insert to make the bottom firm so KS can stand up straight in this if she wants. The pattern said to only add 1 layer of cardboard, but I added 2 just in case. Then the cardboard is covered with fabric so you can't see it. But I wanted to share it so far. I worked for about 6 hours today on this. My neck is tired and I had to quit. I need rest! ;) Hoping to go to the store tomorrow and get a few things. So hopefully I can finish this tomorrow. I'll take better pix and share this week. But in the meantime...what do you guys think so far? Excuse the bad pic...took it with my phone. ;) |
Ooh, and I have to add the little clip part that will snap onto her harness so she cannot jump out. Also, the green zebra print is an outdoor heavy weight fabric, so this is very sturdy. And for the inside, I used a pink damask cotton fabric. I ironed on that interfacing stuff too so this is really sturdy. I hope it will stay that way. I can't wait to see KS in it! :) |
Very nice aymee! |
Well, I think that is a fabulous job! It will be a very nice carrier and I like how open it is for KS to look out and ride;) Good job! |
Looks good Aymee! I like it that you're experimenting with other different patterns other than pet attire. Well done  |
Beautiful!! You are so very talented! Katie Scarlett is a lucky little girl!! |
Simply gorgeous!! Great job! |
Lovely, i made a similar one for my mom, I had lots of fun making it..you did a great job, I usually don't read directions anymore, I find them confusing and I can work faster without them..LOL hugs, |
Looks WONDERFUL!!!!! Also where did you buy your pattern? Its out of print and I want that one SO badly as the patterns are SO darned cute aren't they? Your sewing skills are really improving!!!! I am VERY VERY impressed with the items you are making :) I keep saying that I am going to sew but with the skinkid, two dogs and a hubby I just keep getting pulled away doing something else. I am putting my foot down and next weekendI am going to sew for four days. You are making me long to sew :) You are an inspiration my dear :) |
Wow! I don't know how I missed this thread! Beautiful job! |
It looks great. I really like the fabrics together. Have you already made the board for the bottom? Is the cover for the cardboard made to be removable? If not, I would suggest trying to find heavy plastic canvas instead of cardboard, or adjusting the pattern for the cover so that it is removable, so that you can wash it (unless the fabric is vinyl then you can just wipe it down). I really enjoy seeing all of the things you are making. I need to get busy and sew some things myself! |
Thanks guys! Tina...I bought this pattern on Etsy. It was the only one she had. I have seen it on Amazon and Ebay before though. You could check Artfire too. Good luck! It's a fun pattern! Mky...I have already done the bottom. I ended up doubling up the cardboard just in case. KS is only a little over 4.5 pounds, so I hope it will be ok. I did make the cover removable so I can replace the cardboard if I need to. I may swap to plastic like you suggested. Great idea! |
You've done a great job! It's very, very pretty!! |
Aymee, would you consider selling these Custom made? I really want a cute carrier for Luma but can't afford a kwigy bo or find a semi cheap cute one. I'm sure you could sell them for 70-120? |
Did you have a chance to look at my photos of Lola's airplane trip, I hope you get shots like that with the pilot and flight attendants, if you do I am sure they will be better, and then you can put them in a cool slide show, here's an idea for a song; Leaving on a Jet Plane, it's an oldie..... BTW I LOVE the carrier and can't wait to hear of all KS's escapes on her first airplane trip. |
