Hemming? Question for you guys...I am not a seamstress. I do have a sewing machine but I use it more for stitching on paper in my scrapbooking room. I have a few new pj's for Katie Scarlett and the legs are WAY too long. I could roll them up, but that would get old after a while. I was wondering...how would I go about cutting them down and hemming? Is there any online video or something I could watch? Or any advice? I hope I can do this myself instead of taking them to be done. I'm afraid the lady at the cleaners would laugh me out of that place if I walk in with 3 pairs of teeny pajamas and ask her to shorten the legs. Or if I don't know what I'm doing, should I just have them done professionally? How hard is it to hem pants? I know this is probably a dumb question, but I am lost here. :) |
The legs are so small it would probably be easier hand. Cut off desired amount, then turn them inside out and run a little stitch around the inside. You can do it! :D |
LOL! You are definitely not dumb for asking this. It took me a bit to figure out how to hem. I would definitely hand stitch though. Even the hand stitching I had no idea how to do. YouTube became my best friend! :) |
How much to long are they? If not to long, you could turn them inside out, turn up the one hem that is already there...if it's the right length, then just stitch that down. Good Luck....I know you can do it!:thumbup: |
Thank you guys so much! They are a good 2 inches or more too long. So I am thinking I am going to have to cut them and hem. I am going to give it a try! I'll have to share my results...y'all can't laugh though! Tee hee! ;) |

Hemming is not too hard. I actually prefer to hem by hand than on the sewing machine (unless it's denim). I like the blind hem stitch (really easy, should be able to find directions online).For a really finished hem you turn the edge twice (or turn it to the desired length and then fold the raw edges in), so that the raw edges are not exposed. If the material is fleece it isn't as important to do that since fleece doesn't ravel or fray over time like other fabrics. Also, if the bottom of the legs have a band, you would take the band off, shorten the leg and sew the band back on. If you think KS might grow and need the length, you can cuff them and tack the cuff in place, so that you can let them down as needed. |
