How do you make clothes? I was wondering... HOW DO YOU MAKE CLOTHES?! I see all the pictures here on YT and these people are like just whipped something up in 20 minutes or this is just a practice that I did. And I look at them and I am like "How the heck do you make something like that!?" I have a sewing machine so no problem, but I just wanted to know so I am not wasting my money on a $30 outfit that I might be able to make for $10! Videos would help, etc. :aimeeyork |

a good sewing pattern and cheap fabric to start, I can sew and I usually make my dog clothing if I have the time... |
cheap material let's say you want to make a red velvet dress for your girl, instead of buying velvet at the fabric store which is awfully expensive, just go to goodwill and find an adult velvet dress, take it apart and you will have enough material to make clothes for your girl, depending on the size of your dog and the size of the dress that you get at goodwill you will probaly have enough material to make more than one. Goodwill also has material sometimes but you have buy the whole piece. they won't cut it for you. but the price is cheaper than the fabric stores. |

This is an awesome idea! I just picture it all in my head and make it up as I go along. lol Another way is to have a dress and kinda make your own pattern/template for it. It's really not that hard. Also my hubby's cousin said to even take a baby bib and make a template from that. She said it makes easy shirts. :) |
I've been going to the thrift store and buying newborn size clothes. I take it in about an inch or so down the chest of the onesie and cut then hem the bottom. It makes cute shirts. I also do this with sweaters and tshirts. I avoid the onesies with those little flaps or folds and get the ones with the snaps. I bought one today that had elastic around the neck and arms and it worked out great. Pm me and I'll send you some pics of what I've sone so far. I want to figure out a way to make dresses. So if anyone one has ideas please share. |

Me too. A cute dog dress is just a tiny piece of fabric,a little ribbon,a little velcro. Try Ytube for videos and there are a couple of free dress patterns out there. The major pattern companys make dog clothes patterns. Make sure that you create your firt dress from a scrap of fabric or an old shirt first,so you dont waste money if it doesn't fit properly. Make any adjustments to your pattern if you dont like the way it fits. This is all done mostly on cotton fabric. Knits are a little different. Good luck! |
I made this shirt out of a newborn size onesie. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...1/62eac72c.jpg |

This one was super easy cause it already had elastic around the neck and arms. Its a newborn size and fits my 4.5 dog very well. I put it on her inside out and backwards so the front of the shirt was on my dogs back. The pretty bow is on the front of the shirt but I wanted it on my dogs backs. With the shirt on inside out and backwards I pinch the material along the dogs stomach so I know where to take it in. I sew maybe an inch down the chest so it will fit. Then I cut the bottom and hem it. Since this shirt already had the elastic neck/arms I added elastic around the bottom. I've made a few so far and this one came out the best. I've goofed up a few so far before I figured out the best way to sew it up. I've been buying the shirts at the thrift store for about a dollar. The shirt in the picture is available at targets web site. |

I am going to try this! You should post some more pics! They look adorable! |
Ive done this with NB sized dresses too. All you have to do is make a few seams and it fits perfect. Make a bow that matches and suddenly you have a really cute outfit for not much money. Mina weighs 5lbs. |
