Biewer Yorkies
 
Can anyone tell me what a biewer yorkie is, it looks like a s**t tzu yorkie cross, not like a yorkshire terrier at all. Thanks in advance friends

There are many, many threads about the Biewers on YT. You can do a search for them and read up... Briefly -- the Biewer is not a mixed breed... it originated with two traditional yorkies that both carried a recessive piebald gene. It was developed in Germany -- and has been bred to a standard. A tri-color head... Blue/Gold and White. All four legs, chest and tummy are white, along with the tip of the tail. (The tails are not docked) On the body, the hair is a combination of blue/white. There are several breed clubs here in the US that you can check into. Also, you can google Biewer Yorkshire Terrier and you will find a wealth of information. The most important thing I can tell you is do your own research... Just because someone says they are a "breeder" doesn't mean they are an expert! I have Biewers imported from Germany. "Biewers" Oh my goodness...I had never heard of this "type" of Yorkie before or a chocolate Yorkie that I have also seen in recent posts. I guess I need to educate myself further on this wonderful breed / or do I, are they just another ploy for out rageous pricing as in "toy" ??? I thought the breed standard was up to seven pounds .... black/tan...blue/tan I'm getting a little confused by all these differentials and learning alot from this great site!!! I have had my boy for 5 yrs 3 mos, I can't ever imagine having a more wonderful pet

Hi UrkieMom...

The Biewer is a separate breed originating from two Yorkies that had a recessive piebald gene (white gene) that when they were paired together the gene went from recessive to dominant and voila......white markings. They were then inbred and line bred to develop the standard in the 1980's in Germany. Biewer was the last name of the couple who owned the dogs and developed the breed. It now has it's own standard and is recognized and registered in Germany as a separate breed from Yorkies. Work is being done here in the U.S. for recognition, but it will take a while. AKC's website has information on what it takes for them to recognize a new breed, so it is a long process. Hope that answers your questions....you can always pm me if you want.
