Help Mom Doesn't have Milk My pups are 6 weeks old on Thursday Oct 12th. This Morning 1 of the girls 2nd born was weak so I gave her some formula mixed with A/D (science diet) and some nutri-cal and she bounced right back, Good thing I know a little bit. But the Mother is dried up I tried to get the little girl to suck on Mom but she didn't want to so I checked her and realized that she didn't have any Milk , So I immediately fed the other 3 puppies they have been eating royal canine with warm water for a week now. Just twice a day. I called my vet and they said that it is Ok as long as the pups are eating on their own. What do you guys think? Oh and these puppies are alot tinier then my other pups at 6 weeks. Mom is 4lbs and Dad is 3Lbs. Pups weigh between 9ounces and 14 ounces. So I think they will be the tiny. |
It normally would be perfectly fine. Yours are very small. Keep a close CLOSE eye on them. I bet some Nutrical will be in order. I'd love to see pictures of your babies!!! |
Yep - keep a close eye on them. I would increase how often you offer them food though! My Peanut is 7 weeks old today and weighs just 16 ounces so I know how worried you are over tiny ones! Julz is so right nutrical (I use nutrastat) will be your best friend to keep their sugars up! Good luck and would love to see pics!:D |
So should I keep feeding them Royal canine, or Should I had something else? I took some pictures and I will try to post them. |
Royal Canine is good and since they are already tolerating it well. You can add the Nutri-stat or Nurtical to the feedings. It comes in a tube and squeezes out on their food. Mine are 6 1/2 weeks old and are finished nursing also. I feed them Iams with Nutristat and they are doing fine, but I keep food at all times in their xpen, they are constantly nibbeling on it. The thing about Nutristat and Nutrical is there is a concentrated corn syrup in the product to raise the blood sugar and amino acids/proteins to keep their blood sugar leveled out once raised. It also has alot of vitamens and other nutrients. We raised Dori (mom) and Yogi (dad) on this same regimine, and they did great. We got them at a very young age. Good luck. |
Thank You For The Great Advice I Will Try That I Have Nutri -cal. |

Or consider feeding them the pudding mix 4 times a day along with their dry food, but make sure theyre eating their dry. Vanilla instand pudding (large box) 3 egg yorks 3 cups goats milk serve slightly warmed in the microwave when you serve this I would add nutridrops in their morning serving and their evening serving. Also you can mix canned puppy food into this mixture as well. I hope this helps, keep a close eye how much each one is eating, they can go down fast!!! |
Thnak You for the great recipe I will try it.They did good all weekend then this morning my 2nd born she's the tiniest 9 oz was weak again so I forced fed her and gave her Nutri -cal, she is fine at this time. So I will definately try some pudding you feel so bad force feeding them. |
the pudding recipe should put on the weight and Ive yet to have any yorkie not want to clean their plate!! dont over do the nutrical it can fill them up and make them not want to eat their normal feeding also make sure theyre drinking plenty of liquid. There is a product called rebound it comes in Chicken or Beef...to eliminate dehydration or if you continue to have problems try the chicken baby food sticks mash them up into a bit of goats milk (warm in micro) hope this helps |
Oh Thank You so much Where do you get rebound like Pet smart or petco? Do you just give them that like water? |

Update Just wanted to update everyone, The one and only boy weighs 1lb 4 oz the 2ns born girl now weighs 11 1/4 oz YEA she has gained. She is funny she won't eat so I force feed her 5 cc then she gets up to the bowl and eats she hates being forced fed. the 2nd to the lat girl weighs 15 1/2 0z and the last one born who was the tiniest weighs 1 lb. They are 7 weeks old and I think I am doing a good job. |
Unfortunately I know quite a bit about this subject. Last year, the mother of our pups passed away in the middle of the night. We believe it was an anurism, or some sort of random seizure. We were so devestated. She was our little girl. :( The pups were 4wks old. We rushed to Petsmart as soon as we could gather all the puppies up (she had 6 pups!) and place a blanket over our sweet Princess before we could bury her:(. We bought Esbilac Powder by Pet Ag, and mixed it with warm water, and softened puppy chow every 3hrs. When they got to be 6wks we changed the Esbilac Powder to Puppy Second Step by Pet Ag with warm water, and softened puppy chow. Then we took out more and more of the powder, until it was only water, and puppy chow, and then we took the water out completely, and they ate dry puppy chow. We still have one of the puppies, and she is 6 months old now. I keep in close contact with the other puppy owners, and all are great. :) Good luck with your litter, and PM me if you need more info. :D |
