Welcome to YT! :D |
thank you woof woof |
Welcome to YT :) Glad you found us! |
Hello and welcome to YT! has your baby been with a male dog that you know of? How old is she? what does she weigh? Hope everything turns out ok! |
Welcome to YT! The breeder section is where you should have posted this, but no big deal. Anyway, false pregnancies have the same symptoms as a normal pregnancy so you can't really tell at this point. When was the breeding date(s)? Here's a good site for you to look at www.debbiejensen.com |
hi fendi has been with a male dog through out her last heat cycle...she is now 2 yrs and a couple of months but the male was only 10 -11 months...she weighed about 4 pnds...thank you *woof woof* |
thank you i will post on the breeders section as well... |
Welcome to YT!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have experience with breeding, but chances are she is pregnant. Good luck!!! |
Welcome to YT, and sounds like you got congrats coming too ! |
i called the vet today and they told me that they want to wait a week for a sonagram but we werent sure on her heating days...i jus found the paper and she started her heating cycle 6 weeks ago...but i also know that when the male was in her a week later ...*not sure if normal but he was stuck in her twice-does that mean anything?*...also i want to mention(i will also mention in the breeders section) is that she is a prty vicious dog ever since her false pregnancy and im getting worried as to if she does have puppies she will either hurt them or not let me check up on them:animal-pa |
How much does the Dad weigh? She's a good age, but 4 pounds is a little small to breed, preferably they should be 5 pounds at least to avoid C-sections, but, of course, I have seen small ones deliver naturally and larger ones needing C-sections. Your male is definitely capable of producing pups at almost a year. Did you ever witness a tie (dogs being stuck together for 5 to 15 minutes)? Sometimes at that age they just can't get it right though without help so if you didn't see anything she might not be, but if they were together the whole time he might have been able to figure it out or get lucky. I know my stud at that age didn't even know the right end, but at about 14 months he knew what to do. |
If you go to that website www.debbiejensen.com you can put in the breeding date and it will give you a whelping date (due date). I'm estimating that if her heat started 6 weeks ago, she probably bred about 10 - 14 days after that, so she would be about 4 weeks along. You might want to save your money on the ultrasound because very soon you will be able to see the weight gain anyway. I really like giving an X-ray at the very last about Day 50 because you can usually tell how many to expect and also see if there are any larger pups that might require a C-section. |
the dad is prty big hes almost double her size not sure of the weight but a noticable double easy...they did "tie" twice that i noticed one time a lot longer than the first but they were also left alone for very long periods of time...so i guess my little man figured it out...his daddy will be very proud...haha....the reason why i wanted to bring her to get checked was bc of her being so tiny i want to make sure that she is getting the vitamins needed to be strong and healthy for hersake as well as the pups...shes not crazy about eating...is there anything i should give her??...also the vet said if she does go in to get tested during the procedure the pups may be killed...is this true? ps thank you the site we will be visiting it shortly. :animal-pa woof woof :animal-pa |

You should have her on a quality puppy food (no corn fillers, no meat by products) already because she needs the extra protein and nutrition. I also give boiled chicken breast, cottage cheese, rice whatever it takes to keep her eating. Feed her at least twice a day and as she gets bigger (and has less room for food in her stomach) start feeding small meals throughout the day (like 4 times). I have never heard of an ultrasound causing the death of puppies. Since she is so small and the male is twice her size, you definitely need to have an x-ray done around Day 50 whether or not you have an ultrasound done or not. It is very possible that she is going to need a C-section. The male (and his ancestors) should be the same size or smaller than the female to be as safe as possible. With you saying she is mean and the first heat being a false pregnancy, she might have hormones out of balance. If I had a Mom that I was worried about (or a first time Mom) hurting the pups I would stay very close after the pups were born (like even sleeping next to the whelping box and checking on them all the time around the clock) until I was sure she had bonded to the pups and everything was okay. I have never had a Mom that showed any aggression towards me though. |
now and xray will determine the size of the pups only?..what should i expect from that...do you recommend an ultra sound?..and at what age?...i asked the vet how to balance her hormones out and he said once she snaps out of it shes fine?...what do you honestly think of that answer?....how would i know she has bonded?...when she went through a false pregnancy she kept a toy with her that we were not allowed to go near i imagine she thought that was her pup...but she also played with it liek a toy so i hope that didnt confuse her...she wont attack me but when she went through her false regnancy she was aggresive towards me...now shes aggresive to aeveryone but me...is she just protecting me or what is it? sorry for so many ? but very worried woof woof |
The x-ray is done at 51 days counting from the first tie. It shows how many, how big, and in what positions. It should not be done earlier than this because it can interfere with fetal development. An ultrasound is done from Day 21 to 28 counting from the first tie. They place a wand on her tummy and it projects an image onto a screen. It's not very clear. You never know if you are seeing the same baby each time or a different one since you only get a small window as the wand is moved around. So you can't tell how many or birth size as accurately as with an x-ray. One advantage is that you can see the heartbeats which you can't in an x-ray. If you have the money, do both an ultrasound and a x-ray, but if you are only going to do one - wait for the x-ray. I know that once a dog has a false pregnancy she is more likely to have another. Only about 10% of dogs need hormone therapy after a false pregnancy so your vet is right in saying that. Of course, I don't know your dog, but she actually sounds like she will be a good mother. Don't worry about her playing with her toy that she was treating like a baby - she'll know the difference. The only thing I would worry about is her being so small so the birthing is more traumatic or if the birth requires a C-section they sometimes don't seem to understand that the babies came from them. You really need to do a lot of studying on breeding and whelping - there is tons of info. on the web. Here's another good site - I suggest you read every section and then go to the next site and do the same. http://www.homestead.com/malteseluv/WhelpingInfo.html |
when the c section is done if needed you said she wont know that they are hers...does this mean she is threat to them or will not care for them?...i just went through the first site you sent me...and i have to say i am very scared and starting to think of how i am going to get the vet to move in with me for a week for the pregnancy |
cleaning also i was reading about cleaning her vulva a few times a day i was wondering if it was safe to use babywipes or summers eve wipes-the ones women use for there period? this way il know she is clean |
Some do fine after a C-section and others you have to work with a little more (wiping Mom's vaginal fluids on their heads helps). You'll just have to wait until the time comes. The more you read, the more knowledge and confidence you will gain, and the less scared you will be and you will be able to recognize when you have a problem. Keep reading and don't stop - yes, I agree getting the vet to move in for a week would be very comforting. See if you can find a local breeder willing to help you out. It doesn't really have to be a Yorkie breeder, but someone who is familiar with toy breeds like Chihuahua, Malteses, or Pomeranians. You could even call some ads for dogs for sale in the paper. I know, if someone called me and I was available, I would go help out. |
