So sweet |
oh my gosh she looks so sweet. For first time puppy owners, obviously get as much information you can about anything puppy related but you still will probably have some issues. It's really a learning process and every puppy is different but this board is a huge source of info for anything you would need to know. Just make sure you have everything you would need before you bring her home - crate/carrier, harness, leash, food, few toys, NUTRICAL (very important), potty pads, baby wipes, brush/comb, treats especially training treats but I ended up training Geno a lot with his kibble, comfy bed, blanket, possibly a nice x-pen...see if you can get a blanket/towel/toy from the breeder to help relax her with smells from a place she is already familar with. At night, if you crate her, which I would recommend at first, put the crate somewhere nearby like next to the bed to help calm her cause the first few nights are gonna be tough, well usually. Geno cried the whole first night or two and he we had the crate in the downstairs kitchen. After a few hours, I couldn't bear to hear him so I ended up sleeping with him in the living room on the couch for like a week and a half. Finally, someone told me to put the crate in the bedroom (duh lol) and so we did and then I found myself taking him out and putting him in bed with mommy where he finally calmed down and slept. The boyfriend wasn't too pleased at first but he got used to it. Whether you want her to sleep with you or not is going to be a personal preference. The nutrical is important for hypoglycemia. Anytime you see her restless, or out of sorts, no energy, pop this gel on your fingertip and have her lick it off. Even if she is just tired, it doesn't hurt to give some just in case. Oh and something we learned was when you bathe her, be very careful not to get inside her ears wet. We tend to put cottonballs in his ears now cause he got a yeast infection in his ears when he was only a few months old. Also check the threads on here about potty training and maybe try reading a book. There's loads of information on here about potty training whether it be crate training, potty pad training, or outdoor training to help you. Excited for you! We get our second yorkie a few weeks and she's a week younger than your Zoey! Don't sweat it, you'll do great as a new puppy parent! |

Hi How is it going with your new baby? Did you find potty training ok? I am getting my new little girl on the 24/09.. can't wait. I have called her Hollie.. Its been 11yrs since I had a baby yorkie..so will be almost a new experience. I am wondering about having her in a pen inside for when I have to turn my back or go out. What do you other mommy's do when you have to go out and leave your new babies at home? Its really worrying me..as our house is quite big. I don't want her to get lost. We will have a drive of 3hrs when we collect her. have heard some get sick..oh dear poor little thing. I am a newbie..and dont know how to post photo's? can someone put me in the picture? Thank you Ave x |
A crate is best for when u have to turn your back. I jave mine in a childrens play yard. I wouldmt leave her unattended. Too easy for somethinf to go wrong and they get into stuff really fast. Plus theor own little space will help with potty training and give them thwir safe place. |
We've been crating her, but when she gets a little better with the potty training, we'll move her up to an x-pen and then eventually she'll get free roam. Well to an extent. She'll get free roam in the living room for the most part since that is where we usually are anyways. I don't like giving free roam of the whole house. We used to with Geno but he ALWAYS found ways to get into trouble so he lost that privilege lol They still find ways to get in trouble in the living room but at least this time, we're there with them to stop it before it gets worse :) |
How. adorable. :33 I am new to yorkies- I havent even gotten mine yet. But what size is she supposed to be full grown? The one were getting should be 3-4 pounds, and Im just curious on how big she will be. |
