Looking for a puppy. Hi, I live in Northern California and having zero luck finding a reputable breeder. Could anybody give me a reference for my area? I live about an hour north of Sacramento. Thanks so much. |
Have you tried the YTCA? |
Yes indeed. Over half of them on there for Nor Cal have stopped breeding, and the others do not have any litter, or I can not get a hold of them. |
Did you ask them for references? I understand if a lot of the good reputable breeders have cut back on their breeding programs. In this economy, some, and I'm not including you in this group as I do not know you, have bought puppies on impulse. Once they lost their jobs, homes, or what have you, the poor puppy is left behind. Good breeders don't want to see that happen to their babies. |
Poshible has a thread here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...age-adopt.html She is doing all the right things to find a puppy from a reputable breeder. I think she meant this thread to be in this section: Yorkies For Sale or Wanted - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community or this one: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/breeder-talk/ Maybe a mod could move it? |
My whole problem is finding the breeder that has what I want. Not a backyard breeder, and a asked a couple of them for for references and ended up where I am now, because they did not have the look I desired. I am being rather picky because it is like picking out a child to me...years spent together and I want to know I found just what I was looking for :-) |
There are many breeders here on YT, if you post in the breeders section you may be able to find out in your area who either has pups or who can recommend someone. Good luck in your search, I hope you find your perfect baby soon. |

Yorkies can change so much in the first couple yrs. What if it changes to a totally different look than whatever look, you're looking for? I hope this doesn't sound mean, not intended that way at all! Just wondering:) |

I did not find that rude at all, I completely understand. I actually did adopt an older one a while back but he snaps at me, has bit me and my son, and it has been hard teaching him not to do that. I would understand if we hit him, but even my son knows how to handle him, I moved him while he was sleeping and he lurched up at me and bit me and kept jumping up and growling. My husband had to get him to stop. He is afraid of males. So I am worried about they way he was treated and want a baby to call my own to avoid that behavior. |
Getting a puppy will not guarantee that you don't get a nipper/biter. Some dogs, even when treated well, will still develop those problems- especially if they are taken from the dam/litter too early. As previously stated, what you see in a puppy is no guarantee of having a certain "look" as an adult. Unless you are planning on showing, you would do better focusing on the temperament of the dog and it's dam and sire. Also, how old is your son? There are some reputable breeders who will rule you out if he is too young, out of concern for the dog's safety. |
Not just "the look", more as I have heard so many horror stories of getting sold a dog that is not even a yorkie, but a mix. Or dogs that were bred badly. I have even found several of those stories on here. I just don't feel like getting jipped. My son is 4, and I already know some breeders do not like that idea, but if I did not trust my son around a small puppy I would not be looking for one. It is a small fortune to spend on something that my family will not treat right. I welcome breeders into my home. My son has been around baby everything (we live on an 11 acre farm and raise sheep, goats, pigs, calfs...you name it). We have a yorkiepoo and Tristan is wonderful with him. I don't want to be sold a Chevrolet when I wanted and paid for a Cadillac...as an example I guess. |
adoption Do they have a yorkie rescue in your area? check that out.............That way you know what your getting.................and it gives a little one a second chance..............good luck..............Boops mom:aimeeyork |
