Pixie Pearl hi my name is Joyce and Pixie Pearl was born August 19,2009. She came home today. I have noticed that most pups are 12 weeks when they come home. Pixie is only 8 weeks old. she is so precious. How often should she be sleeping and How often should she drink? The Breeder told me to feed her 3-4 times a day when we got home she ate a little and played a little but I did not see her drink. I was able to get her to lick a lil water off my finger. I just want to make sure she drinks enough. any advice would be appreciated. This is my first Yorkie! |
Hello & welcome, its quite usual over here in England to have pups at 8 weeks but I understand not over in the U.S. 4 meals a day is our usual recommentation, whats she fed on? If its tinned they contain alot of water anyway, but if she's on a dry it would be more of a worry. Just make sure she has access to water all the time, if worried or it continues then have a word with your vet. If she's weeing properly then shes probably getting enough fluids. |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. :) Congratulations on your new baby Pixie. She was born on the same day as my girl's little singleton puppy! Yes, 8 weeks is a little earlier than what we recommend, but it's not unheard of. How much does Pixie weigh now? Sometimes breeders will let them go a little earlier if they aren't too small, though 10 weeks would be the absolute earliest I would even consider letting my pups go. Acutally, I'd love to keep them forever, but we know that's not possible.:p The longer they are with mom (and siblings if any), the more they learn from them which will help them become better and more easily socialized as adults. That rough-housing and "play" that mom & siblings do together is actually valuable lessons being learned. As a young puppy you might want to have puppy kibble available to her at all times (water also, but that goes without saying) and just watch that she IS eating. It doesn't take a lot to fill these little tummies, so you might want to weigh her every other day or so to be sure she is maintaining her weight or gaining some. Good luck with your little girl and enjoy! I hope to see lots of her here as she grows up. |
Welcome to YT! Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby Pixie Pearl. I love her name! I brought my Piper home when she was only 9 weeks old and I fed her 4 times a day and she thrived. You're going to just love being owned by a Yorkie. |
Thanks everyone! Iam making sure she eats even if she licks it off my finger, she is on wet and dry mixed together and she did lick some water off my fingers. She is using her pee pad well and has already gone like 6 times so I think she is genty plenty, I just tend to worry bc my lil Daisy was bought by my daughter from a pet store and sad to say Daisy defintely came from a puppy mill bc she was so sick the first year of her life. Many vet bills. Thank God Daisy is 5 years old and doing well today and she loves Pixie but is keeping her distance! |
Congratulations! I am glad to hear that Pixie Pearl is settling in and also that Daisy is now doing well. It will take some time for them to adjust to each other, but I'm sure Daisy will be the best big sister! ;) |
