Helping Lexi feed If you have followed my thread for Lexi's previous litters that were also large ( 6,6,7 and now 8) I do not suppliment unless I see no weight gain or if Lexi just looks like she is too tired to feed. Well this litter I am helping the little ones get more, as I see them being push away from Lexi by the bigger puppies. (how do I call 6.0 oz big???) Well I first do "shift" feeding. All the little ones, Orange, Pink, Red, and Yellow, get to nurse first and when they are done I lit the remainder of the litter nurse. I take the first group one at a time and bottle feed them. It is too cute!! |
Opps... 2 Attachment(s) .....I forgot the pictures!!! |
Great job Charlene ; you obviously know what you are doing & have things under control. I'm glad to see the tiny ones are steadily gaining, thanks to your wonderful care I'm sure. Keep those pictures coming! :D |
Concern is setting in... I am starting to worry about the female pink puppy. She is so much smaller than the rest and is not gaining as fast as the others. I went and got more stuff for the whelping pudding, but is there anything else I should be feeding her? HELP!!! |
Oh My Gosh- those pictures are too adorable. I am sorry one is not gaining well. There is a post on the Cinnamon thread with different whelping pudding recipes- I don't know if you could use that to supplement with or not. |
Pink and Yellow see the vet 2 Attachment(s) Well I was so worried that I took my two little girls, Pink who weighed 2.8 at birth and is only 4.1 a week later, and Yellow who weighed 3.0 at birth and weighs only 3.5 a week later, to the vet. Well, they are just fine..they are just going to be little and will take some extra care the next few weeks since they are so much smaller than their siblings. They get suppliment whenever they wake up and then at least once at night I feed them also. I weigh all of them and just marval at how the others are growing. The first picture is of blue, the biggest with his two small sisters. The second picture is me holding the pink puppy. |
I am so glad they are ok- I bet those girls will catch up in no time with all your care and supplementing. Thanks for the pictures so we can compare- all three are gorgeous as I am sure all of them are. |

Hmmmm, I don't think I ever asked if you have the stud to Lexie's litters. With the mention of the girls probably staying small, I was just curious about the sire and his size. Did you use the same stud as with Lexie's previous litters? |
Lexie's stud 1 Attachment(s) I use a yorkie that lives in the next town. He is a little over 3 pounds and has the most gorgeous fur. Lexie is about 7 maybe 7.5, so Petie is much smaller that she is. |

Did you try to post a pic of him, darn it didn't come through. |
Opps the picture again! 2 Attachment(s) Here are the pictures of my little ones!! |
Wow! A litter of love! Can't wait to see pics and I hope Lexi is doing well |
Stud- Petie and Lexie 2 Attachment(s) This is a picture of the father of the eight puppies and Lexie and her 8!! |
farher 1 Attachment(s) let's try this again!! |
Lexi's Eight at 3 weeks! 3 Attachment(s) WOW...I can't hardly believe that it has been 3 weeks already. All of the puppies are doing great. The biggest boys at right around 15 oz. and the two little girls are 6 and 7 oz. They are all beginning to walk and I have put them into the "gated community"(see picture) already because they were starting to climb the side of the baby pool whelping pen that I use. We are really starting to see some personalities in the puppies: the little girls get up early and like to wake everyone by nibbling on their ears. They both are very spoiled because they have been bottle fed 3 or 4 times a day and as soon as they see me, they whine. The orange is the quiet one that just loves to be held and cuddled, and the red girl sleeps alone a lot..is very independent. The big boys still sleep and blue sleeps on his back legs straight up. Lexi is so full of milk because of feeding eight, that running with the rest of the adults when outside is still difficult. She is a good Mommy, but I am starting to see she wants away from her brood more and more each day. We also have another litter of 2 at the house that are 9 days younger, you can catch up on them through their thread, Davies Puppies.:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Charlene, How great to hear all of the pups are thriving; Lexi is such a great mommy, we know that from her previous large litters. :) I hope you will continue to share pictures with us as they get bigger in the weeks to come. |
We started gruel today!! This morning when the babies got up...they were so hungry that I thought they were going to hurt Lexie, so I started they on ground puppy food with powered puppy suppliment that is left over from the little ones being bottle fed. I started with the big boys and they liked it...the girls were a little less excited about the new adventure. Lexie seemed to appreciate the help, so I will try again tonight!! |
Congratulations |
Wow. That is a lot of puppies to have to find homes for in this terrible economy when no one has any money and people losing their homes so I will be praying for you that you will have no problem finding them good loving homes. I guess that is why I have not bred my other dog. I still have 3 Sphynx kittens that need homes and no one wants to buy them and I have lowered the price to one quarter of what they are worth and still no lookers. Good luck...They are adorable. |
I do not breed unless I have 4 deposits for puppies. So I really only need forever homes for 4 plus Davie's two. My sales are mostly word of mouth, and I will not start advertising them until they are 8 to 10 weeks old. i would love to keep the two little ones, I think they are going to be adorable, but...5 is my limit!! I can't believe Lexi had 8 babies! But of course the babies are adorable! I also LOVED the "gated community" comment! :p Congrats! |
They are so cute! You have your hands full the next few weeks! |
Six weeks with Granddaughter 3 Attachment(s) The 8 puppies just love Novalee and when she comes over she actually gets into the pen with all of them and they just climb all over her. These are not staged pictures but pictures of the puppies loving Novalee. She just loves them all and will find it hard to let them go to their forever homes. Novalee is 5 and in Kindergarden. |
We really need to check the record books, you may have just beat the record hands down!! |

Oh gosh Charlene; that is so sweet! I don't blame her one bit for getting in there with all those babies. I know I would be too. I am enjoying Halle's little singleton boy Oscar so much; Novalee has that much fun X 8! The pictures are sweet and the puppies are adorable. :D |

I bet they grow up to be like my lucy. Lucy loves kids. If a child comes around her she goes nuts wanting to play with them. I think this comes from being socialized with children when she was a puppy. I can't get over 8! They are so cute. I think the weight chart is such a great idea. |
CONGRATULATIONS! :jump28ib: thats a lot of babies:congrats::jump28ib::jump28ib: |
