Help Mom isnt intersted in her pups Hi I am new to this group. My Daisy had her puppies via an emergency C section. We almost lost her. She had 3 boys(one was stillborn) and one girl,. She is still at the hospital and due to come home today in the afternoon. They say she is also a little low on calcium and anemic due to her surgery. She will let themnurse as long as you are with her. She won't lick them either. Any suggestions?????? Thanks so much for your help:( |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Her motherly instincts will probably kick in and she'll do better. I would be concerned about her Calcium level and feed her cottage cheese, and have her drink milk replacement, or the whelping pudding would be good too, if she'll eat it... mine usually don't. So I give them 1/4 can of canned puppy food with cottage cheese on top twice a day, and 1/3 cup of mixed milk replacment twice a day. Be sure to watch for excessive panting, shaking, quick increase in fever, or instability... and get her to a Vet immediately if that happens. You will need to "potty" the babies until she starts licking them. Sometimes I will put a small amount of Nutri-Cal on their bums and she will lick it off and get the idea. You will need to watch her and the babies non-stop to make sure all is going well, and step in as the need arises. Good Luck! Welcome to the breeder world.. it's not as easy as it sounds! ;) |
Thanks so much. We are home and she has done 180 turnaround. She is being a great mommy now. The Emergency vet advised me to give her 1/4 tums everyday. She sadi it si the quickest ands most absorbable. The puppies are doing very well. No Breeding is no easy matter. This was her first and her last litter. Too dangerous with her. Thanks for the help and I will give her some cottage cheese tonight with her food. I am making her homemade chicken broth right now to help her so she stays hydrated.:animal36 |
