Is it normal for my pup to be this huge?!
 

Born 1-9-09 AKC I've read the charts for determining how much a pup will weigh at 18 months and my lil Angel is off the charts! I took her to get her final puppy shots this weekend and she weighed in at about 7 lbs. OMW! I don't care if she's big or not show quality etc. I love her the way she is...she's perfect to me but am very curious is this normal?

When I bought her the man told me that he only feeds the pups a small dixie cup full of dry kibble each day but his daughter had been over feeding them. I just let her eat as much as she wants (which isn't much). We've had her for 1 1/2 weeks now and I don't think she's gained much. I saw the mom and she wasn't very big. Hmmm...

Also, one of her ears kinda sticks up and the other lays down...normal? I think it's cute. ;)

Any words of wisdom will be appreciated! Thanks in advance. :)

p.s. I made her some hm chicken and rice w/ veggies, etc...but she's not crazy about it and I haven't had time to adjust the recipe to her liking so for now she is eating Diamond Puppy dry kibble and filtered water and sometimes raw food products.

Welcome, you should be able to feel your puppies ribs but not see them. Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes so I would speak to your Vet to see what they say about the weight. I am attaching a link for you in regards to dog food. Diamond is not a very good food. As far as feeding amounts and times goes each food has there own recommendation
as to how much. Most puppies do however get fed 3 times a day. Good Luck, and once again Welcome look around there is some great advice on this site.

Awe, if that's her in your avatar, then she's a cutie! if u peruse this site, you'll find that yorkies do come in a wide range of weight, i've read somewhere on here of a yorkie in the high teen, like 16 lbs. So! (unless you are looking for a show/AKC yorkie) what's normal, normal is a happy and healthy yorkie! JMHO. Welcome to YT!

Ramsey was born 1/14/09, so yours is just a few days older. I weighed him last week and he weighs 3.2 pounds. I give him 1/3 of a cup of kibble a day and only once in a while does he eat it all. He gets 1/2 of a peanut butter softie treat from Got Toast each day. Neither of his ears are standing up yet.

I don't know if that helps any or not.

I have 4 yorkies. Tia - 9 years - 19 pounds (a touch fat should be about 16 pounds), Abbi - 6 1/2 months - 2.5 pounds, Cooper - 2 1/2 years - 6.6 pounds, and Oliver - 2 yrs - 9.9 pounds. So as you can see, they come in all different shapes and sizes. The general rule of thumb is that a yorkie will triple it's 8 week weight and double it's 12 week weight.

My boys both put on another pound between 1 and 2 years.

Thank you! I appreciate your warm welcomes! Your replies really helped and I feel much better now about her size being fine. I had read that an akc yorkie wasn't supposed to be more then 7 lbs so I assumed that was the top weight. I kind of wanted a smaller yorkie but it's probably best with our crew that she's not too small. She's perfect and we'll love her no matter what.

I'm going to switch her to the Chicken Soup for a Puppy Lover's Soul Food during the day and in the evening I'll feed her the homemade food...I added some raw ground beef and she LOVES it now. ha ha

It's true, unless you intend to show your yorkie, weight & size shouldn't be an issue, afterall, you fell in love with her and she's a part of your wonderful family now! Ideally, most people go for the yorkies because of their diminutive size, usually around 3-7 pounds. Sad thing is, there are breeders out there that think if you put a male and female together, out comes the perfect yorkie. That is why it is so important that we all do our homework when shopping for our little yorkies. I've always said, go visit as many breeders as you can, afterall, the yorkie isn't going anywhere. It's so exciting to bring the puppy home, but you will be thrilled once you spend enough time learning about the breed, then you know what to look for. Her picture is so cute. About the person who sold you the yorkie and told you his daughter was over feeding it, I can't believe that. To me, it was a way to excuse the puppies size, he knew it was a little bigger then average. Either way, congratulations on your new pup. Don't forget to switch her food slooooowly (especially going fr. poor quality food to higher quality food) as an a few kibbles ea. day otherwise, you'll risk diarrhea. As for her ears, if u want them up sooner, then u need to shave them, they are weighted down by hair right now that's all. Post some pics of the cutie soon!

My Willow Weight
 

Willow went to the vet today and he weighs 10pds. 3 oz. He is 5 months old. I asked my vet if he was over weight and he said no. I mention to him that I feed him on demand(food remains out for him at all times). Willow is not an over eater. He eats about a cup and a half a day (24 hours).My vet. stated that each dog is an individual and if that works for him continue to feed the way I have been feeding him. He examine him and said he was within his weight range and he is healthy.

So like people every being is different. I have no intentions of using him as a show dog. I have 10 pds. 3oz. to love. Willow is now the same sixe as his sister Zoe (cat).

My puppy is UKC registered. Does anyone know much about that. I would like to mate him when is grown. One of his parents were AKC,however AKC would not accept the litter because one parent was UKC. I hope I am explaining this correct. lol
