Having trouble bottle feeding puppies born this morning Hi all. Bellas puppies were born this morning around nine. (2) girls, (1) boy. Bella is still not producing milk. Vet said to start the bottle feeding, but have trouble with the bottles (from petco). They don't seem to be getting milk unless I squeeze the bottle real hard, it will drip a little out. One nipple I poked with sterizled needle, as suggested, then tried another one with cutting the X, also suggested. I see no bubbles come up through the bottle, as you would feeding a baby and it really seems as though they are getting anything. I fed all three, and with trying to squeeze it out as best I could I only got 1/2 tablespoon in them COMBINED, in an hours time. I even tried repoking the holes several times to be sure it was all the way through Am I missing something here??? Please help. |
They are not strong enough to suck on them. I had to use a medicine dropper with mine and it worked perfect. Just make sure they are sucking the milk and not breathing it into their lungs. |
I helped a friend bottle feed and I used a paper clip/ sterilized it and poked 3holes in the top. It made a slightly bigger hole than the needle and was more effective. I did notice I had to squeeze the bottle a little more firmly, but just be aware of bubbles frothing out their mouths too much. Always make sure you try and burp them and wipe their little bottoms with a warm damp cloth afterwards as well. :) |
Also you may want to copy and paste your request in the "breeders section" and I am sure some of the other breeders would also be very willing to send advise as well. Good Luck. It is difficult, stressful, and tiring...but worthwhile |
