Is he normal? 1 Attachment(s) I've been consumed by pictures of Skeeter who turned 5 weeks old today. Tell me if you think he is a moose or not. His Mom and Dad are both 4lbs and his 1/2 sister (Adie) is 5lb. By all rights he shouldn't get much bigger that 5 or 6 pounds but I'm getting worried. The breeder says he is all baby fat and his hair is extremely thick but he is big. The picture isn't great but it does show you what he looks like next to his Mommy. The breeder also says he doesn't weigh 1.5 lbs yet. Opinions? |
Unless his mommy is a very petite Yorkie that puppy is a chunky monkey! I love him! |
LOL, I love him too. He already has an attitude I'm told. But since he is a singleton he is getting spoiled rotten by Mom. I think we are going to have to pry him off of her to wean him. She shows no desire to stop nursing. But he is drinking water and tasting her food. She is still very protective too. She won't let any of the other dogs in the same room with him. |
It's so hard to tell, but 1.5 at 5 weeks isn't too big. |
He hasn't missed any meals...LOL. He's a very cute moose. |
It's my understanding that when there is only one pup all the nurishment goes to them of course, therefore making them bigger to start with. That dosen't mean, of course, they will become a larger Yorkie. Just a chunky monkey as a pup. Good luck if your planning on getting him. He's beautiful and so much of him to hug. |
Thanks for the info! And I am defiantly getting him. I can't wait! I just don't want him to get too much bigger than Adie so the odds are even. LOL I have another question though. I know I shouldn't bring him home till he is 12 weeks but the breeder says that if he reaches 3lbs by 10 weeks she would feel OK with letting him go that soon. Again opinions? |

He looks big in the picture, and at the risk of hurting someones feelings, that mommy doesnt look too healthy. |
No hurt feelings here. Mom is healthy but she is getting a little run down because she is so over protective. The breeder shaved her a couple of days before she was due. she looks well-nourished to me. She obviously needs a bath but I think the main problem here is that the picture is so out of focus it is hard to tell. She is also Adie's mother and Adie was a spoiled little brat too LOL |
I think he looks precious. |
I too have a chunky monkey I was just signing on to ask the same question. She is a singleton and very fat. she is three weeks old and trying to walk the back legs wont participate though. Her mom has been trying to play with her its so funny.:p |
I think he is adorable and being a new mommy to a demanding singleton must be one tiring job :) |

Kalela says Skeeter is normal and adorable too!! Kalela is pudgy too but its cause she doesn't share her food with anyone either being a singleton. |
Awwww, he looks so sweet and well taken care of. That's a good momma to let him just eat whenever he wants...he is prespoiled! :) As for the mommy, I know that when our dog had her litter, she got to looking so tired and thin. I think they get to only focusing on those babies...kind of like us human mommies. LOL! Does your baby still have his tail or does it just appear this way in the picture? CONGRATS on your new puppy!! well that precious baby is eating well lol ;) my bentley was a CHUB when he was a wee thing...i think at 6 or 7 weeks he was over 1.5 lbs...he was so chubby he had baby fat rolls all over his body, especially on his little arms and legs...there were only 2 in his litter so he ate well ... and also, he had a TON of hair and that made him look even bigger LOL...i seriously thought he was going to get to about 6-7 lbs which was okay with me  well fast forward to almost 5 months old and he is 2.5 lbs and gaining slowly...he is growing into all his skin finally and looks perfect for his size... so no, i do not necessarily think he will end up being a chub :) JMO |
Wow, what a nice bunch of comments! Wstrahan - LOL Skeeter couldn't get his belly up off the ground when he first tried to walk! Linda944 - Yes that is Adie in my Avatar. Isn't she a beauty! She was a singleton too. Tiggerr36792 - Hey Kalela! Skeeter wants to know if you still love him even if he is a "chunky monkey!" He doesn't want to lose his bbf! TammyJM - Yes Skeeter still has his tail but it is because of a miscomunication. I had said I wanted it docked. Oh well, if he ends up looking like his sister it will be a way I can tell them apart at a glance! Txrosegirl - Yours was a very encouraging message. Thank you! I don't want my little chunk to grow up to be 2.5 lbs though. 5lbs would be great! Thanks again y'all. </IMG> |

Kalela will still love him no matter what size he is...She is 5 weeks and she weighs a whopping 1 lb. 11.4 ounces herself, but shes very active and the baby fat will become more leveled in no time I am sure. |
