I'm a grandma pup! Well Friday night, Princess Winifred Guinivere Rosy Angel (aka Princess) gave birth. It was amazingly fast. She started fussing a little bit and panting around 5:30 p.m. at about 8 p.m. she chased me upstairs to where I had put her whelping box (well the one she chose, the one I created she rejected, she chose the laundry basket filled with clean towels!) at 8:30 I was yelling at my husband to get upstairs as there was a puppy on the way! at 8:55 she delivered the second, at 9:40 she delivered the third and much to our surprise at 10:30 she delivered a 4th! We were only expecting 3 as we had x-rays and an ultrasound taken the week before and two different vets said that's all we were having! I guess Princess thought otherwise:D We have two little boys and two little girls and all of them are about equal size. Right now the trick is to keep Princess up on her nutrition as all the little sausages do is sleep and nurse but she is doing an amazing job! I haven't even had time to upload pictures but since this was her first litter we are just proud as can be of her! She let's everybody in to see her puppies as well. The two big dogs (lab mixes) take a look in the basket once in awhile and she just licks their noses and daddy hops in the basket gives her a lick on the nose and she licks him back and then he goes off to play ball! My daughter and her husband came around yesterday and Princess was happy as could be to let them take a look at th babies! I admit I'm such a softy, I just began sobbing when the first one was born and by the 4th one I was just laughing and crying and so was hubby! Now the fun begins because at this point my husband has no desire to let even one of them go, that means I will wind up with 8!!!! dogs 5 yorkies and 2 labs:eek: |
Congratulations of the 4 new puppies! What a nice surprise to get a 4th when expecting only 3....my Lexie had four 3 weeks ago (already!?!) and they are growing like weeds. Yes, feed, feed, feed, Princess all the good quality puppy food she wants until the pups are weaned. If I see Lexie's bowl empty....I put more food in it right away. Congratulations again and I'll be looking for those pictures later on. Wow, it's been a busy weekend for Yorkie litters being born! |

Awwww...congrats!!!! |
Thank you for all the congrats. We have had a medical emergency with mommy, she developed eclampsia, she is back out of the doggy hospital and home with us but we are having to supplement her calcium and we are having to feed the puppies by bottle....so I haven't had time to take pictures yet :( But will try to do so in the next couple of weeks. The hardest part is for 48 hours we could not let Princess nurse and then now we are only allowing her to nurse one puppy each one time per day so just a total of 4 nursings and then very limited so that each puppy continues to bond with her but does not drain her calcium supply! As to are we keeping all of the puppies, I'm not sure it's feasible, we rent and that would give me a total of 8 dogs! My two big ones, mommy and daddy plus 4 puppies! Yikes but my husband is considering it:D I know we will keep at least one of the females |
