Wanting to adopt a female Yorkie
 

Hi my name is Marie and I would love to adopt another Yorkie to add to our family. I have a male Yorkie (he's fixed), he's a teapot. I believe he weighs about 14 lbs right now. He's had all of his shots, he's up to date on all of those. He's very playful and very friendly! He loves playing with other four legged animals (except cats - he tries to hunt them!) and he loves loves people! I just want to have a playmate for Dunks while my boyfriend and I are at work. Dunks has the whole townhouse when my boyfriend and I are at work. So its not like he's in a cage or anything for 8 hours... Dunks is spoiled rotten.

I'd rather adopt than buy - so that I can help other YTers out there who are looking to give their babies for adoption. So anyone who is from No. Cal pleaes PM me if you have a female Yorkie for adoption so that my Dunker can have a playmate.

so you are looking for a free puppy? There is another forum on here that features yorkies for adoption and recues. That could be an option.

What I meant by rather adopt than buy was I'd rather adopt the "older" Yorkies since I would hate to see them go to the pound... I am willing to pay money - Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hi Dunkaroo. It's great that you are looking to rescue an older dog/pup. There are a lot out there, you just have to be patient and wait for the right one. I'll give you a couple of links that may help you out. The first is www.puppymillrescue.com This is a great organization. They rescue adult dogs as well as puppies or young adults out of puppymills. They seem to get a lot of Yorkies. There is one on there right now that is 1.5 yrs. old Female that was operated on for Liver Shunt and is doing great. She's beautiful. Another place to look is as Sugar said Yorkie Rescues and you can find various Yorkie Rescues, by using Google to search. You may even have one in your state. Also, try www.petfinder.com and type in Yorkie and your zip code and it will list all the Yorkies available for rescue. Lastly, your local newspaper is a great place to look. You'd be surprised at how many people get pets and then decide they are too much work. This is how I got my Tia. Tia was under a year old, spayed and wee wee pad trained. She is 1/2 Maltese and 1/2 Yorkie. If you're open to a Yorkie Mix that helps too. You'll find quite a few mixes in rescue etc. now a days due to the "Designer Dog" craze. "Designer Dog" is a fancy word for a mutt or as I'd prefer to call it mixed up pup. LOL. They are breeding Yorkies with all kinds of small dogs such as the Maltese. Often these guys end up being readopted or are taken when puppymills are shut down. The best thing about adopting is that when you adopt everything is included in your adoption fee, such as spaying, shots, heartworm preventative, and flea prevention. AND, any health problems have already been addressed. The average adoption fee is usually between $250 - $400. It's really a win win situation. If I can help you out in anyway with info. Thats wonderful. Your boy sounds just like mine. I just got a girl a few weeks ago:). You will LOVE it. They will learn to play togethor. And thanks for adopting, theres many out there to get:). Post pics when you find the perfect baby!

Oh Elaine! Thank you so much for the wonderful sites! I search every day! Now I have a couple more new sites to check... Gives me a better chance! Yes, I feel bad for my Dunks being home alone all by himself when mommy and daddy are at work. He has a playmate right now, my boyfriends cousin's bull mastiff/pit/rott mix. They play so rough! I get so scared sometimes... But Dunks loves it! He will not stop and is the instigator.

Oh GEEZZZZ. You have to watch. That's a big guy for him to play with, especially rough playing. Big Size difference and even if he doesn't mean it, he may really hurt your little man. Good Luck to you in finding a little friend for him. Elaine

Oh his playmate, Kona (bull mastiff/pit/rott) is still a puppy. She's 4 months. When she gets a little bigger, I think that is when they will no longer play - UNLESS Kona learns to be gentle with him. She's a very sweet dog though... So *crossing fingers* that she learns to be gentle with him...

I would definetly would try the places mentioned above, and remember to keep an eye on the board. Even if it's not near you, we do have the Yorkie train.
