Looking for Playmate for Ginger Ginger has been moping around the house, with no one to play with. My husband and I would like to get her a new playmate. We would prefer an older male (8 - 18 months), 6 - 8 (or a little more) pounds at maturity. If anyone has one, please let me know. Thanks, Janelle |
Janelle. You may have some luck on Petfiner or through a rescue, not necessarily a Yorkie Rescue. I've seen quite a few Yorkies that meet what you are looking for, over the past couple of years. Also, at my vet today there was an older couple that had a boy that they aquired through rescue at the age of a bit over a year. He was found hiding under a car with a broken leg. They said that they had three Yorkies and aquired all three through rescue. Also, keep your eyes in the local classifieds. A lot of people give up trying to take the time to potty train or an elderly owner passes and family just want to get rid of them. It's a plus that you want a male too because most want females so they are harder to find, although I have a male and females and truthfully by far my male was much easier all the way around. http://www.yorkierescueme.com/ourdogs.asp Nuri looks like he might be what you're looking for? Good luck! |
Thanks. I am hoping that we will find a younger dog somewhere close enough to go visit before deciding to purchase. Gin has final say in the matter. So we would prefer she met the puppy/dog before we buy. From what I have heard on here, rescue organizations have some pretty strict rules, and I know when my niece tried to adopt, she was told no, she had too many pets already (not that we do, we have Gin and my daughter has a cat). |
Janelle, Did you find your little older dog???? I'm just catching up on some of the threads. |
No I haven't. I will keep looking. The hard part seems to be more location (I want to find one closer to home so that Gin can meet and then we can discuss it--the word interview seems harsh, but we want to make sure it is a good match) And the harder part is size. I don't want to get a small one. I am really looking for one around 6 - 8 pounds. And the trend is definitely for smaller. I was hoping to get one that someone had kept for hopes of breeding or show and then had grown too large... But I keep telling myself that patience is a virtue. Gin running around the house looking for something to do is kinda heartbreakening, but we will get there. |
Good luck in your search! Are you back from Iraq now? I will keep my eyes open since I am local as well. There was a breeder in VA beach that had a male who had gotten too large. My friend emailed her about him and I do not know if he ever found a home. I will ask my friend what her email address was...it was published in the paper. |
No I am still here. But getting close to being done. Can not wait to get home! And thanks for checking on that pup for me! |
I am home! And I seriously need to find Gin a playmate. I was kinda hoping I had, but I was too slow! So, I would like a yorkie that is at least 16 weeks but no more than 2 years. Somewhere within easy driving distance of Hampton Roads, VA. One that should be 7-10 pounds full grown. I would prefer a female, but will consider a male. I have two weeks before I go back to work, so now is the perfect time! Thanks! |
I know you said in Driving distance BUT did you see this cute little girl still left? She looks adorable and older but not too old for your Ginger. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87587 I know I drove a ways to get my little Mia for Murphy to have a play mate and it was so worth it. Just trying to help, may be the perfect match! Good luck! :) |
I would definetly try a yorkie rescue or petfinder. |
