Looking for Male Yorkie in FL Hey guys, My name is Jose and I live in Gainesville, FL. I just got out of the Marine Corps 3 months ago and my wife and I really want a little yorkie to hold, play with, and love un-conditionally. I'm currently in the market to find a "teacup" yorkie (notice the quotation marks...i know there's no such thing but you all know what I mean) and purchase/adopt one from a good breeder/owner. As with everything, price is and will always be a factor in the working Americans life and eyes. I'm looking for a male and the price range would be along the lines of somewhere around $200.00 - $600.00. If you think you would be able to help my wife and I out, it would most certainly be greatly appreciated. Any feed back with information pertaining to where I should look or who I should talk to would be awesome. Please guys...help me out! Thanks. Oh, and one last thing of course. If you need to contact me, please do so by emailing me at: O2.endeffect@gmail.com or reply to my post. thanks again! R/S, Jose :aimeeyork |
It might be pretty hard to find a quality one in that price range. And by quality, I mean from a good breeder and one that's not sickly. Have you tried looking into a rescue? |
Please be very careful. I know everyone has a budget, but, I have never seen the little ones go for that cheap. A yorkie is a small dog no matter what. My Percy just hit 5lbs and is teeny tiny. I doubt you would get any kind of papers either, AKC or CKC, the breeder I got Percy from has excellent prices if you don't opt for papers, but, still over 600 for most. If you want a tiny girl...that's a different story... I would also say to look into a rescue...also, a male that is going to be "bigger" as in above the standard 7lbs, or even 5-7lbs would run cheaper. They are excellent babies, no matter what their size...also, if you and your wife plan to have skinkids later...a 5-7lbs yorkie would be better. |
I sold my two girls yesterday, but my friend has a litter of two boys and one girl one of the boys is very tiny and the girl too... if you want I could give you her number let me know if you are interested. we are not breeders are are home raised...and very healthy Angie |
We're from Florida also and when my husband and I were looking for a pup almost 3yrs ago, we needed to stay in a certain price range also. Well, we ended up falling in love with a puppy from a supposed breeder (we later found out she was a broker for puppymills). She claimed to have the parents on site and that her pups were healthy and that they would be around 5lbs. He came to us very sick and had about every problem you can imagine...Heart murmur, upper respiratory infection, coccidia, hypoglycemia, etc. All those things went away with treatment and time thank goodness, but some months later, we found out Miko has liver problems that he has to be on a prescription diet and take medications for it everyday and he weighs over 10lbs. We would NEVER trade him for anything in the world. He is our baby boy and like a child to us, and we couldn't be happier with him. I'm telling you this, so that you know that it can end up being more expensive by buying from a less reputable breeder who has "the right prices". We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on his vet bills in less than 3yrs. You may want to look at a rescue organization. Try www.yorkiefriendsrescue.com They are wonderful!! Contact them and see if they have anything you may be looking for...Good luck! I think it's great you're asking questions before you get the pup. |
I wrote you about my boy, I have pictures of him on this forum (for sale) I can guarantee you he is VERY HEALTHY!! and he won't be as big as I first thought! |
I live about twenty minutes from Gainesville. I bought Yoda from a lady who lives about five minutes from me. He was from her first litter ever. Yoda's mom and dad are expecting a litter in late July. If you PM me I will give you her information. She is reasonable, although more that your top amount. However, I couldn't ask for a better puppy. We love Yoda so much!!! He came to us already crate trained and already going outside. Her puppies run around her house and are not kept penned up all day. He never has whined or cried at night. Anyway, she is the best. I get comments on Yoda all the time. He is just the best and I can't say enough about the lady I got him from. She does have two other females but I am not sure if she is going to have any puppies before the litter due in July. Anyway, if you decided to go with her, you would have more time to save up. You will also need to consider vet visits for shots, etc. Best of luck. |

I live up in the FL panhandle. If you wanted to go significantly higher on the price, I could help with a couple of good home breeders here. But you would have to add about $1000 to your price range. I think the post explaining how the lower priced pups may cost more in the long run was a good consideration! |
***update*** Okay, so my wife and I have read comments, read emails, and all we have to say is thank you for all your time and effort in helping us out. We're not down and out for the count just yet (we really want a little furboy). Needless to say, we've up'ed the antee and decided to invest a little more than as previously mentioned. I know that this post is at the bottom of the page and I really dont want to get in trouble with the admin folks so I'm just posting our changes on this thread. So here it is guys: $800.00 - $1,150.00 is how much we can afford to spend. Please, if you can help us out...please dont be shy. What will work out best is if you either have a new litter coming in or if you know of a litter coming in soon...preferably within the next 3 months or less. again...thanks a ton guys, you have all been such a great help and such a great source of information. |
