Looking for Baby Yorkie (M/f) Desperate!!! I want a yorkie and have been looking for some time now. It seems like its really hard to find one for a decent price in my area (Jersey City NJ). Since i'm a college student i don't want to spend thousands on the puppy so my price range is $400 -$600. Does anyone have any advie on whre i can find one in my area wit my price range???? |
Have you considered a rescue or older yorkie? Yorkies are expensive everywhere so you might want to save a couple more hundred. Good luck |

Pet store prices are atleast 1000 and up in your area. Also, please do a search about petstores and why it is not a good idea to get a pet store pup. I know how expensive yorkies may be.........but also keep in mind how expensive vet bills, maintenance, supplies etc cost. I waited a couple of years until I was able to actually 'afford' one :) Good luck with your search. |

PLease don't buy a dog from a pet store. They buy from puppy mills. These pups come with all kinds of health problems. Look on Petfinders then the ones that are listed in NJ. The last time I looked there they had several. |
I'll ditto the www.petfinder.com. They have several really nice Yorkies and if you'll consider a Yorkie with another breed mixed in I've seen some very cute puppies. Also, in so far as pet stores. Pet stores buy from puppymills and many of the pups have many genetic problems, not to mention what the parents of the pups are put through. Often the parents live in outdoor, small wire cages, without adequate food and water, let alone no medical care. Most are very sick and they suffer long years of breeding without care. Please, don't put $$ into the hands of people like this. lastly, you will pay at a pet store the prices that you'd pay at a top breeder. They are very over priced. Be patient and wait it out till you find the right pup. You can also try Puppymillrescue.com. They are a non profit organization that dedicate their time in rescuing puppymill dogs. They often get young pups bought from puppy auctions. The best part about rescue is that your donation includes vetting, shots and spay/neuter. Best of luck to you. Elaine |
good luck in your search! I hope you find the perfect baby for you. Dont give up hope, I'm sure somewhere there is a baby waiting for you! |
Also, as a college student, it's important that you make sure you have the ability to cover unexpected vet fees from $400-$1000/year. Yorkies also require extensive dental care. I have wanted a yorkie for years and waited until I owned a home in order to do adopt one. Some yorkies can be yappy and, as a result, dorms or apartment landlords don't often like the noise. If you are able to afford these costs and own your place, then I see no problem. It sounds like you're as eager as I was before I got my Tahoe. Yorkies are the *best* companions. Good luck to you in your search. ~ Kelly *Don't feed your yorkie "Greenies". Their lives depend on it.* |
