My pup is almost nine weeeks old and has beeen ready to go since eight weeks. She is sold and I am holding her another week or two tho. Not because she isn't ready. She is good size and is so done with mom. Well socializeed and in the room with all my other yorkies. eating well, well socialized and everythig else. I really don't see , in my case, that keeping this pup till twelve weeeks would make any difference at all. I think people need to understand it depends on the individual puppies. I am expecting a litter in November that the parents are known to throw smaller pups. I have no doubt that I will be keeping this litter until twelve weeks old.

You are definetely right about every pup being different. Even though the puppy eats/drinks and potty's on it's own though doesn't necessarily mean it's ready. Because a lot of times owners take their pups home and they either get sick on them then or they become difficult to train, etc. Everyone has a different experience but I was just curious. I've talked to a lot of reputable breeders that say the bond between the mom and puppy just strengthens and she teaches the pup a lot up to 12 weeks. I think if they are doing well 10-12 weeks would be good but 8 weeks seems so young. Congrats on the upcoming litter :p How exciting.

The pups I just sold from another litter were placed at 8-9 weeks. I have spoken to the owners 2-3 times each week since placement, and they are all doing very well. In fact, they are all amazed at how easily they adjusted from my home to theirs. They are very active, extremely well-socialized.

I kept one of the pups an extra week because she needed more time with mom. I do think it just depends on the situation.

It's pretty much the going rate here in OK. Some advertise "teacups" and ask over $1K, but we all know about those. . .

I agree with you 8-10 weeks is rather young. Mom does so much teaching between 8-12 weeks....

With my last litter, the mom didn't want to have anything to do with the pups after about 7 weeks. I even wrapped her so they couldn't try to nurse, put her in the pen with the pups, and she just would try to claw her way out, paced around and whined until I finally took her out.

Don't get me wrong - - she was an AWESOME mamma dog. Took tremendously great care of the pups up until around 6-7 weeks. Then, she was DONE!

Well, Silk isn't teaching her baby anything and hasn't for a couple of weeks. She makes it a point to get as far away from thee baby as she can. usually, she is lying on the back of the couch or my computer table and baby is on the floor playing with all the rest of mine. mine are BOTH done with each other.

How old was your pup when mom "washed her hands of him"?

Well, we took 5 adorable pics this morning, but when my husband tried to upload them, they were too big. We have dial-up out here in the country, unfortunately, so uploading pics, no matter what size, takes FOREVER!! Anyway, I'm not sure how to get them "smaller".

Help??
