Thinking about buying a puppy over the Internet, READ THIS FIRST!! I have seen alot of posts recently about people talking about getting their hopes up only to be scammed. So I thought I would post this for everyone who is buying a puppy over the interenet or is having the puppy shipped to them. In today's world there are many scammers out there who just want your money. Among those scammers are puppy scammers. They will "sell" you a puppy for real cheap, but in all reality you are paying for a puppy that does not exist and you won't get a puppy that you paid for. Here are some things to watch for: ~They will say the puppy is free and all you have to do is pay for shipping ~They want payment through Western Union ~They won't let you pick up the puppy and the puppy must be shipped ~They usually have bad english ~They are missionaries who can no longer take care of their puppies ~They were praying for someone to give their baby a loving home ~They can't give you detailed information on the puppy and it's backround ~They say they no longer have any puppies but can refer you to a friend who is doing missionary work If you are buying a puppy off the interenet or having a puppy shipped to you please do the following: ~Ask for a new picture of the puppy with your name and date on a piece of paper in the backround ~Go through an escrow company such as www.puppyescrow.com ~If possible, ask for references or have someone check the breeder out ~Have all guarantees, contracts, and papers written in agreement as to what the terms are. ~Have the puppy inspected by a vet in the time period permitted What is puppy escrow and how does it work?? Puppy escrow is the safe and easy way of buying a puppy off the interenet or someone you don't know. The buyer will get the puppy that was agreed upon and the seller will get his money. The puppy is tracked throughout the whole shipping process. By using puppy escrow, neither the buyer or seller are able to be scammed. Puppy escrow is accepted all throughout the United States and many other countries. This is how it works: 1.) Buyer and seller agree to terms. They register with puppy escrow and agree on a contracts, shipping costs, puppy that is to be received, vet inspections, etc.. 2.) Buyer pays puppy escrow. Both the seller and buyer will be notified when the payment is made. The payment will then go into an escrow account and seller is notified to ship the puppy. 3.) Seller ships puppy to buyer using the approved shipping methods disscussed in step one. Buyer is required to enter shipping details to puppy find so that the whole shipping process will be tracked and recorded. 4.) Buyer accepts the puppy. Once the buyer receives the puppy, they must notify puppy escrow within the agreed inspection time period set from step one that they accept the puppy. If the puppy is not accepted, buyer must notify puppy escrow immediately so arrangements can be made to ship the puppy back. 5.) When the buyer accepts the puppy, the funds will then be released to the seller in the chosen payment method. Everyone is happy and no one got scammed. Sorry I know this long, I just want everyone to know how to have a great and safe transaction without the worry of being scammed.:animal-pa :animal-pa |

Excellent advice!! There ARE some ligitimate breeders who do sell over the internet (that's how I got Topher), but the dishonest ones have one interest and one interest only....the money...so it seems to be the main topic of their emails/conversations. These people are true thieves and have no puppies to sell. One other piece of advice that my mother always told me....'trust your instincts'....'go with your gut'. So many people that I know who got scammed said that they had a 'feeling' that something wasn't right. We have to learn to trust that instinct that we have. It's usually right. |

Great Post! It serves as a reminder that it is so much better to do business with honest reputable people..... |
thank you so much for that info . |
This is great information. I had searched the internet before finding Jill and contacted several sellers only to figure out, thank god, that there was something suspicious about them. I decided then that buying on the internet was not an option I was willing to take and took to finding one by other means. Keeping newbies informed of this is a wonderful idea. Once you are on YT for any length of time you find this out. Unfortunately for some they find this site after the fact and come here looking for help. |

great post! |
I ran across several of these scams when I was searching for my puppy. I even had one guy from Cameroon continue to seek me out for months even after I bought a legit dog. He even went through the trouble of sending me fake paperwork which, when read through carefully, clearly stated that it was for a Capuchin Monkey! I thought it was funny that this guy took me for such a sucker. Be careful out there, there are some sick people in this world |
better safe than sorry great info |

:aimeeyork i try to got puppy escrow but nothing comes out:aimeeyork |
I think this is great info. I live on the web it seems and understand the complexity of selling online. I would say the main issue is you want to have a comfortable feeling when purchasing your yorkies. Some feel comfortable withonline purchases. I hope this doesnt scare people away from purchasing dogs via the internet. Just try to work with the seller to see what your getting before making any purchases. If you cannot view it in person that is the risk you may take. Sorry to whomever has been burned from these scammers! |
Hello: Thank you for posting this great site, I am trying to sell my yorkie, so this will allow me some security. Much appreciated. Tulip |
