Decided on the Yorkie! I have finally decided on the Yorkie, over the Maltese. It took a while and lots of researching, but I am thrilled with my choice! Now, the next step is to find several reputable breeders in my area, or at least close by. I want to be able to have a choice and be able to pick up the pup and not have it shipped. I am in Summerville SC, right outside of Charleston. I am willing to travel to Georgia for my new baby. I am in no rush, I want to find the perfect pup for me. So, if anyone knows of any breeders in this vicinty, that are planning a breeding, or expecting puppies, PLEASE let me know. I want a female puppy, preferably 5lbs..give or take a lb of course..and I know its hard to predict, but something close would be great....Thank you for all the info everybody has provided me with on this board!...and thank you for any info you might have for me in the future :D |
WooHoo! You've made an awesome decision... Good luck finding your future little ball of joy :D |
Mount Pleasant, SC Summerville, eh? I am from Mount Pleasant...graduated Wando High, etc. My parents still live there, and my husband and I hope to move back one day in the next few years. Right now, my husband is finishing school here in Tennessee. If I were you, I'd check the classified listings in the Post & Courier and even the Moultrie News. I know for certain that there are a handful of yorkie show-breeders down there but they quoted me $1200 for a pup and being a newlywed, that was just a bit high for us to afford, lol. I work for the news myself, and could make a couple calls for you if you are interested. We got our pup from a great breeder...in Knoxville...closer to us, but of course, no help to you. But when we move back, we can have puppy play dates, hehe!!! Anyway, CONGRATS on your fine choice of breed, (we LOVE LOVE LOVE our Yorkie and we got lucky, I guess, because Sully has the most wonderful temperament and personality, he doesn't bark or chew and he's perfectly housebroken....and he knows about 10 different tricks so far...at 8 mo. old) |
YEA!!! Good for you! I also said I wasn't in a hurry for a pup but then I found myself on the internet for 8-10-12 hours a day for weeks looking at every single yorkie site and breeder I could find. It's amazing that I don't have 50 yorkies after all the little angels I looked at everyday. I felt like I knew some of them personally since I looked at them so often. :p |
How exciting!! I think you made a wonderful choice! :D |
That's great you definitly wont regret the choice. I have had my Annabelle for two years now. It has been a great experience. Are you looking for a show dog, a pet, or a breeder pup? |
muahahahahahaha.......... score another member for the yorkie forum, YOU LOSE MALTESE FORUM :p |
Thank you, I am very excited! I would like pet quality. Female about 5 lbs...I know its hard to say what the puppy will end up at full grown..but approximately 5 lbs...I told myself I'm in no rush to find the perfect pup...but I am so excited, the anticipation is killing me! If you know of any reputable breeders in the SC or Georgia area please let me know...Thanks :D |
Congratulations on your decision and on your search for new family member! You won't be sorry. |

Neecy: Reading your announcement was so exciting for me also! I do not have my little one yet, but have found out so much from visiting this site, I love it! My baby will not even be born for a few more weeks. I could have gotten one sooner, but I feel so confident of this gal who I'll be adopting from that I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. We had originally decided to get a boy and were going to call him "Calvin" (Cali for short). But now we just want to look at the litter first and go from there. If we choose a girl, she'll be named "Carly". I have purchased several items for this pup already and will be more than prepared when we finally bring him/her home! Good Luck on your search! |
Congratulations! Congratulations! You made the right choice. Any reason why you are choosing a Female? I have both a male and a female, but I find that the males bond better with women, from my experience any way. I only got the female to keep my Husband company and to some day breed with my male (yes I'm an experienced Breeder). Would you consider a male? I am also in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach though. I will send you an e-mail with some info. on a Local Breeder in Florence (45 minutes from me, just outside of Conway). He has 2 litters, one that will be available in 3 weeks and another one that will be ready in 8 weeks. If your interested? You could give them a call? Anything to help you out, since your near? Driving distance isn't too far? Good Luck! :) |
I agree that males make better pets for their mommies. I breed and have had many puppies/dogs of both sexes but, when I consider one "just my pet" it has always been a male. I had to euthanize my wee heart of my heart a coupla months ago and it was so painful, I still cannot say more than that without tearing up. My males are more needy and therefore more bondable. If you find a baby that is everything you are looking for, and it happens to be a male, don't just rule him out. Think about it and you might just feel yourself going back to that little guy..Great luck in your search.. |
