Consider adoption? I know that getting a new baby is exciting, but please consider adoption as an option...www.petfinder.com is a great tool... there are currently 242 available Yorkies and Yorkie mixes listed there...remember, not all dogs end up there because they are "bad"... a lot of times, small dogs like Yorkies are owned by elderly folks who get sick and can no longer care for them...such dogs are often already houstrained, well-behaved, and pre-spoiled rotten!! Here is a link...good luck in your search for a new friend, whatever your decision!! If interested, go to www.petfinder.com then enter "yorkie" and your zip code on the left :D |
1 Attachment(s) I'll second that - and if you don't believe adopting is good, take my word for it - Sandy came from Petfinder and is probably the sweetest dog there ever was! ;) |
Thank you for this post! I would have a house full of rescues if my husband would let me! |
I don't want to offend anybody, I think it is GREAT to get a new pupy from a reputable breeer...I'm glad you guys support this idea, also!! |
Awww, those poor sweet little pups. Thanks for posting this site. There are so many dogs in need out there. I am a big fan of adoption!!! (canine and human!) :aimeeyork |

yes, me too!!! |
adoption Retired breeding dogs from reputable breeders make wonderful pets also. many only ask for the price of spay/neuter..you can call all the Yorkie breeders you can find and get on their "retirement" lists. |
i tried the adoption thing, but they didnt accept me...... i have issues with the adoption thing  ..... i understand that they want these dogs to go to good quality homes, BUT i think they are making the situation worse then it has to be, they dont accept people for stupid reasons. Everyone here knows i love my dog to peices but THEY considered me "unfit"..... even my mom tried to adopt a kitty for my dad (he needed company at his work/shop) and as soon as they heard that they said NONONONONONO... so we lied ... and now he has teh best mouser in the world and the laziest and fat furball! |
I do agree with that..they ARE too picky about who gets an animal...and this IS quite a shame!!! |
ide hate to say it...... but there would be a lot less animals in shelters if they would actually let people adopt them..... they are complaining that there are so many animals out for adoption and yes that is true but they are "shooting themselves in teh foot" because of their STRICT adoption background check. I couldnt adopt because we didnt own a home, and we lived in an apartment. I know plenty of people that couldnt adopt because they are in COLLEGE!!!! I mean cmon, seriously just because you go to college doesnt mean you cant care for a dog (that was another ding on why i couldnt adopt).... BUT, to keep true to the reason of this thread, adoption is a good idea for those of you who would qualify. |
AMEN!!!! I want to adopt one, but they won't let me because I have kids!!! HELLO!!! I have a 4 1/2 lb Yorkie and a 2 lb Chihuahua, and I'm almost certain I saw them running around my house this morning!!! My dtr has never even tried to hurt a dog!! They would rather a dog stay in a shelter, with no one to love them, than them to go to house with kids, were they would get tons of love and attention. Discremination!!!!!! |
