Another Texas Gal... 2 Attachment(s) Hello All! Well I have been registered on this site for about a week now but have never said anything because I do not yet own a Yorkie. I have read probably every single post on this entire website, I think I know more about Yorkies than anything in my life! haha.. Everyone is so smart here!! I know whenever I get my yorkie baby I will be as prepared as possible because I have researched so much here and other places. I am worried about breeders in Texas now, after hearing all of the horrible things about Texas breeders, but I do not want to purchase from online or in a pet store. I got a mini dachshund a year and a half ago from a breeeder who I thought was good at the time but looking back they were not at all. I was barely 18 at the time, they did not ask me if I lived with parents who would agree to the little girl, they didnt let me past the living room in the house, and when I got her she had ear mites, and hair loss on the top of her head and on her ears. I thought that it wasnt such a big deal at the time.. took her to the vet and got it all taken care of for $84. I would have adopted from pet finder but at the time, PF had no dachshunds! Now there are tons!! Then recently we have made a new addition to the family, Daisy. She had been abandoned at my boss' rent home and no one had fed her in over 2 months. She had been eating trash, paper towels, pretty much anything she could. Daisy is some sort of German Shephard mix, she has the same coloring, but is a lot smaller. She is the sweetest thing I could ever imagine! So now we have 2.. but I'm still not satisfied.. I love dogs so much, I just want to take them all home with me :) I know dogs are alot of work, so please no one tell me I dont know what I am getting myself into. I am in no hurry to find a dog right now, "Good things come to those who wait" right? :) I just wanted to introduce myself, and sorry this is so long, haha. Here are some pictures of my little girls, Roxie the day I got her, she was terrified (maybe you can see the hair loss on her head) and Rox and Daisy curled up on the couch right after we got Daisy. Sorry they aren't Yorkies but I love them the same :animal-sm |
Welcome to YT! You've got some beautiful girls there, it's great you're doing so much research and educating yourself BEFORE you get a Yorkie, which lots of people don't do! :) |
Welcome!! Hi there I'm still pretty new here too ! Your girls Roxie and Daisy are adorable, how lucky you are that the just cuddle up to one another so soon after getting them. :) It's good you are taking your time..and researching . Lots of info here and really friendly ,helping people too..I'm already pretty addicted to YT. :D |
Hi. I'm new too. Joined just today. I don't have a yorkie yet either. I decided I should wait until we get our house built. I'm afraid that if we sell our current house before the other is ready that we'll have to rent a place that won't allow a dog, so no need to cause problems there. I've been looking at lots of yorkie sites and am leaning towards a rescue. A new puppy would be great, but it just breaks my heart to see all of those poor adult and senior dogs with no permanent homes. Thanks to everyone who gives there time here. I'm learning a lot. Don't be discouraged by some breeders here in Texas, bad breeders are everywhere not just in Texas. I purchased 3 Yorkies recently all in the Fort Worth area. I went to several breeders before finding the quality of puppy i wanted for the money i was spending. All the puppies i got were from different hobby type breeders. I tried to purchase a puppy from the breeders that show Yorkies but the cost is UP there. Then they will only give you a limited registration and a contract that says you will have them fixed. If i'm spending close to or over 1,000. for a puppy i don't feel it should be limited. So I went with hobby breeders and they have beautiful Yorkies that run free in the homes. Both parents of one of the yorkies i got came from Brazil. The breeders also gave me a copy of the pedigree of both parent from Brazil that show lots of champions in the back ground..... Welcome to the site...... looking forward to eveyone having a yorkie. they are the best dogs around... ok i'm hooked on them... |
You have a beautiful "family" started there and I think a yorkie would make a wonderful addition. You are so smart to be learning like you are. I would contact some vets in your area for referrals to good breeders. They usually know the good ones for the bad ones. Good luck! |
Hello and welcome! It's so refreshing to see that you have done research and are in no hurry - smart smart smart! :) Bless you for rescuing Daisy, both her and Roxie are adorable! :) |

Sad day... Hey everyone.. I am EXTREMELY saddened to say but we have to give Daisy up. Her and Roxie got into a fight last night (their 2nd one) over a bone and Daisy was just trying to defend herself and seriously injured Roxie. She has bite marks all over her, and my mom has cuts to from getting them away from each other, but Roxie broke her toes so she has a big cast on (its hot pink, SOO cute.. I'll post pictures of her Monday) Daisy is so sweet, and Roxie always starts the fights because she thinks its her way or the highway :D but when my mom took Roxie to the vet he said we'd have to get rid of her because they will keep on fighting again and again.. so my mom and step dad decided we have to let her go. We are not just going to take her to a shelter, because I do not want her to be put to sleep! We are trying to find her a home on our own right now. I am going to Petco later on and I am going to put an ad up with Daisys pictures, but in the mean time, if anyone knows someone in South Texas who wants my little doll let me know. :( |
2 Attachment(s) Here is my beautiful little girl being a trooper with her cast and bandana on.. She is so cute, I wish they could keep her cast on forever :D And here's Daisy, outside, saying "I don't know what I did wrong, but whatever it is I'm SOOORRRRY. I'll just curl up in your lap and maybe you'll take me inside again" :) They are so cute! |
Hi everyone 1 Attachment(s) Kinda reminded me of when we had our first female yorkie (Ashley ValDay, born on Valentines day) come home. She was Alpha Yorkie. She knew when we brought our 2nd female (Princess Tina) home that she had seniority and made a point to tell Tina that. Tina was so sweet, and loving, and caught off gaurd. It took the girls a bit of time to really get along. Our male(Sir Anthony) we brought home at 8 weeks of age. He was so tiny we prayed that the girls wouldn't hurt him, or feel he was invading their space we watched closely and would make sure he was in his taxi for quite awhile when we couldn't be right there. To our amazement hough the girls treated him so softly, played with him like a delicate baby that he was. Hmmm think it was because they knew he was a male? You bet ya! We were Soooo happy. Like we had brought the sweet prince home. They treated him like royalty, so soft and careful with him. They played so softly with him. And when they didn't want to play, instead of being mean with him, they would jump up on the couch or chair where all he could do dance around and verbally(in a puppy way) try and talk them back down. I think if it would have been another female we would have had the same reaction we had only twice the jealousy Ashley Valday had when Tina came home. Kind of off subject, but wanted to share the difference in reactions we experienced. Thanks for listening. Oh the Prince is now a King ! ha ha Thanks for reading. justus Kirk and Mary |
I am so sorry to hear that your companions don't get along. Of course, it can happen with any breeds, any time. You did a wonderful thing rescuing Daisy. It is probable that now she is socialized enough to be an only dog in a pet home. Giving her up to an appropriate rescue is another option. They are no kill and will foster and train her even more and she will be given a chance to rehab and go to a new home. She is so confused and sad, I am sure. Give her hugs and kisses from me and my Cuties.. |
Very Sincere and Wise post whispers mom that was a very nice and intelligent post. Our Yorkie girls got to be best friends as time went on. As long as Tina remembers Ash is senior yorkie. EXCEPT when they had their litters 3 days apart but with the puppies bow 9 weeks and weaned, Ash and Tina play like they used to. It is wonderful to see them this way again. :) justus |
Awwww... That's too bad about Daisy and Roxie not getting along. Must have alot to do with them both being girls. Our Doxie boy, Casey let it be known when we brought Heidi home that he wasn't very happy, but was never mean to her, just kind of sulky for a day or two. That didn't last long at all and they were inseprable for many, many years, the best of buddies! Justus: Glad to hear your females do get along with each other as well as with your new little boy now! |
