Looking For Female Yorkie Puppy! I'm looking for a responsible breeder that offers affordable puppies with a lifetime health guarantee, in Michigan, preferably close to Ann Arbor where I live so when I'm ready I could go in person to meet breeder and pick my pup. I am willing to drive out of state if I find the right puppy/breeder (within a reasonable distance) or ship if I can't but I really prefer to deal in person. I bought a pup online in 2010 and it died (along with the entire litter) a few days before it was to be shipped. I got my money back but I was devastated because I was already attached (she had been sending pics/vids updates weekly). That scared me off from trying to get a puppy for a long time. Well I'm ready to try again. I'm hoping to find a breeder with a proven track record of healthy pups that live long healthy lives so I can avoid that heartbreak again. I'm looking for a healthy, cuddly female puppy. I'm not necessarily looking for a teacup since I know those are prone to health issues but I am looking for a very small puppy that will stay small (at or under 5lbs) even when full grown. I'm a tiny person myself and always dreamed of having a tiny puppy of my own. I'm not rich or even middle class so I can't afford a puppy for $5k or $10k or really even $2k so I would love to find a puppy for around $500 ideally or up to $1,000. Especially willing to pay more if there's a lifetime health guarantee. I want to make sure that whatever puppy I buy lives a full healthy life. Research I've done on yorkies online says they live an average of 16yrs, so I wouldn't want my pup dying a year after I bought her. This is one of the most expensive purchases I will have ever made and I want to make sure I make the right choice and get the most value for my money. I hope my financial concerns don't give you the wrong idea that this pup would be just a thing to me, I will love her with all my heart. I don't have any kids, can't afford to. This is as close to being a mother as I may ever get. So she will be spoiled and have all my attention. I just must stress that unlike most people that can afford to go buy another one and it's not big deal to them, I cannot afford to. This may be the only puppy I'm able to buy, so I want her around to love and cherish for at least a decade or more. I'm not looking to buy right away, just doing some recon for now. My husband promised me he'd buy either for Christmas or my birthday in January so hopefully this will be enough time to find a good breeder. Thank you. |
I don't have any info on a breeder for you, just wanted to say do not buy a puppy based on price. $500. is back yard breeder price, I doubt you would get a well bred yorkie for even $1000. Start thing $1200. to $1500. "maybe". The least expensive in owning a yorkie is the purchase price, you must have the finances for vet care, all vaccines, spay / neuter, dental care, heartworm and flea / tick protection, this goes for any dog, petagree or a mutt. You must look at the whole picture when thinking of buying a puppy. Affordability is the key factor. |
Seriously, do any breeders give lifetime health guarantees? I am new to yorkies, but have had collies for years and have never seen lifetime health guarantees. Gew |
Good luck on finding a breeder with a lifetime warranty. You will need to buy health insurance coverage for your pup to help out if you have a health problem. Yorkies and people all have medical things as they age so hopefully you have money put aside. Good breeders do not sell their puppies for five hundred bucks either. You need to check with breeders and talk to each and everyone you find. It takes time to find a good breeder. Hopefully you do find a pup but please do your homework study the breed. Susan |
Im looking for a female as well 1 Attachment(s) I am also looking for a female. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I am looking for a Black and Tan, female, to weight between 4-7 lbs. Does anyone know of any good breeders that have a litter coming up? Here is a pic of my dog Sexy Lexi and I would like my next Yorkie to have a similar look. |
Have you thought about a rescue? We bought Max and Sasha and thought we were getting a good deal on both. I think we paid $800 for Max and $1000 for Sasha. Being uninformed as we were, we thought we got lucky with the person we bought from. Since then we have spent at least 3 times that amount on vet bills. While I would not give up either one of my furbabies for a million dollars I would never go back or recommend the person we bought from. Back yard breeder, Greeder, choose whatever you want to call them but all they care about is pumping out litters and making money. A good breeder will never mate dogs that have known genetic defects (luxating patella, Legg-Perthes, kidney or liver issues, etc). You may spend more on the front end but finding a good breeder will save you in the long run. Good luck in your search from a fellow Michigander! |
I rescued a seven year old last year. In one year he needed double luxating patella surgery that was about $4000 and now PCCL Surgery costing near $5000 and meds for life. He is worth every penny, but I really think you should consider finances. Pet insurancerance for sure next time. Gew |
Lexi is a doll. Check the breeder referrals on YTCA. I suggest contacting Katelin Ryan-LaVail (Surprise) and Kathy Murphy (now in Phoenix metro area). They may or may not have litters planned or pups available. If they don't have something in the works, then ask them to refer you on to others who they would trust. |
This is my first post on this forum. I agree with max dog. A Breeder does know if those genetic deficiency’s are present in the dog. They know if they are passing on bad pops for the most part. A responsible breeder is constantly improving their genetics. Yes one might slip by but it doesn’t happen on a regular basis |
As to the original post, Nikkib, you will be hard pressed to find a $500 yorkie puppy. Be very very afraid of one cost that amount. If you are willing to get a hybrid dog, or a designer dog, you could Possibly get a good one in this price range, And one without significant genetic issues. |
