Looking for a male yorkie - Austin, Texas Hello! I've been lurking on here for awhile, but have finally decided it's time to sign-up and start looking for a male yorkie to join my family. I'd prefer a pup, but am also open to adopting an older yorkie. I'm not looking to show and/or breed (just a house pet and companion for myself). I used to have a 13 year old beagle mix (adopted her from the Austin shelter when she was 5), but unfortunately she just passed away. I figured this forum would be a great place to start, since there's so much valuable information out there. Thanks! |
Welcome to Yorkietalk from a fellow Texan :) Definitely have a look around the stickied threads that go over what to look for in a breeder. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your beagle, they are wonderful dogs. Yorkies are absolutely special and will heal your heart and fill your life up with so much joy! Try ytca.org, That is the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. You can get some good AKC breeder referrals there. Sometimes breeders have older dogs that retire from breeding or showing, as well. Good luck! Please stick around and learn! |
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Welcome to Yt. I have two males. You can see them on my website. I also have a puppy application there if your interested. I wish you well in your search for your new family member. |
Welcome! Waving from TX as well. Be sure to check the YTCA list for a place to start looking for a breeder. |
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! Definitely appreciate it--and glad to be on such a wonderful resource. Breny-- I will be in contact with you shortly. Thanks! |
D'oh, there was a really beautiful 2 year-old male yorkie named Nugget at Austin Dog Rescue that I really wanted to adopt, but I couldn't sell the rest of the family on getting a male. Can't complain though, since I ended up getting a spectacular female yorkie pup from Amazing Yorkies (Deb has great references here and I got an awesome healthy and fun pup from her with a long health guarantee). Nugget has since been adopted though, and I don't see any yorkies at Austin Dog Rescue's site right now. Chris' Rescue Angels might be a rescue option for you too, if you're willing to go down to Marion (~20 miles east of San Antonio). I have seen some really nice male yorkies in their adoption gallery before. |
And I'm so sorry to hear about your beagle. I lost my girl Minnie two months + one week ago, and it was (and still is) so unbelievably hard to say goodbye. |
Thank you everyone for all of the advice and help, I've found my pup who will be arriving next week from Deb (known as Amazing Yorkies on this forum). Really excited! |

That's going to be so exciting when you pick her up. I know when I got Cook at the airport it was just love at first sight. And then the first time I heard her bark when we got to the truck it was just so sweet. |
Pictures!! Please!! when your baby arrives. |
Definitely will be posting pictures! Now I just have to decide the best method for potty training! Been reading through a ton of info on this site. :) |
Congratulations!! |

Cookie was perfect yesterday and we were perfect today until 15 minutes before her bedtime. I'm working on teaching her to pee/poop on command, and she's really starting to come around. |
