I don't have a Yorkie yet, but I sure do want one. I am brand new to this Forum. I want to learn all I can about Yorkies so I can be the best Mom to a Yorkie puppy. I am retired, so I can give my baby puppy undivided attention. Any comments are appreciated. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and I know when you do get your Yorkie, you will stress and fret just like the rest of us with the first nights home, how they won't eat at first, don't sleep well sometimes, the housebreaking and training and running them to the vet if they hiccup but despite whatever troubles they might be at first, they sure are a joy to have in the home. There is never a dull moment with Tibbe, he's a sassback but well-behaved and totally cute and he makes me laugh every day. There is no better watchdog than a Yorkshire Terrier either. And such a lovebug! I cannot imagine having any other breed. I hope you find your very own Yorkie soon. |
I always recommend two great books that cover everything you could possibly need to know about Yorkies...."Yorkies for Dummies", and "Yorkshire Terrier: A Smart Owners Guide".....these are two books that I recommend to everyone that buys one of my babies, especially if they have never had a Yorkie before. You really need to be sure a Yorkie is a good match for you....after you have established that, OH Boy!!! Let the games begin!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to YT....you will learn TONS of information from here...check out the library and all the other forums.... |
Welcome!! Waving from FtWorth! So much to read and learn in the library here. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. This is the best place ever. I joined before I got my sweet boy Deuce so I could learn about the breed. He was my retirement bribe. But was the best bribe ever!!!!!! I love this forum and have learned so much here. You're off to a great start!!! |
Welcome to YT and that is when I got my yorkie when I retired too. I had the empty nest syndrome too, so my husband bought me Pixie for our 30th wedding anniversary. She was the best gift ever!!! |

American Kennel Club - Event and Awards Search Take the time and go to a dog show. You maybe able to meet and great the Yorkies and get to know some breeders. You maybe steered the right way into finding a healthy pet quality Yorkie JMO |
Welcome! You came to the right place and i'm sure you'll love it here! Yorkies are wonderfully little pups. I can't imagine life without one (or several!). My advice is to take your time finding and getting to know a breeder before you buy a pup. There are many bad breeders out there to beware of. Rescue is also a great way to go if you don't mind a pup that isn't "perfect". I happen to think rescue is a great way to go but I know its not for everyone. Learn everything you can and enjoy your search! |
If you are interested in going to a dog show in TX and up for a trip. The Reliant Dog show is in Houston in July. Its the weekend of the 19-21. There will be vendors there as well as dogs in the ring. There will be several YT members there for various reasons. Me,I will just be there to enjoy the dogs and maybe get to meet some of the people that I have been talking to for two years here on the forum. |
Yorkies are so much fun. The playful attitude is so funny and they're such sweet dogs. What makes the yorkie great is that they're active; they're not the kind of dog to just lie on the couch all day. They really seem to like getting around (I guess it's from their early origins as rat hunters in England). My yorkie Minnie just loved hunting birds and squirrels and was the funniest thing in the world the way she liked to scratch her back on the floor or looked like she was having an organism when you scratched her backside. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! You've come to the right place to do research :) |
I am looking to find a new home for my male, 4 year old neutered akc registered Yorkie. We had a baby recently and he cannot handle the stress and attention on someone other than him. He has always been wonderful with kids, loves the extra attention from them and puts up with the grabbing and squeezing. He is current on all shots and will come with all of his gear and remaining trifexis to get him to his next heart worm test. Let me know if you're interested. |
