Hello All I am new to this forum and am on a quest. My wife and I fell in love with my son's Yorkie. He was playful and very smart. But the most important feature we loved is his hypoallergenic coat, as well as his size. In trying to search for another one, it has been very hard until I saw posting of another owner. The size we are looking for is the large yorkie, not the miniature, teacup, but the ones running around 25 lbs. I know the Skye bloodlines are in this breed which causes this size difference. Anyway, this is what we are looking for, a puppy that will grow to be this size.:aimeeyork |
Hello and welcome to YT. The yorkie as per the AKC website is from the Toy Group; AKC recognized in 1885. Ranging in size from four to seven pounds. We recommend friends to go to the YTCA website for breeders. I hope that will help |
Hi and welcome to YT! I hope you have success in finding a larger Yorkie. I know several people here have them but I'm not sure why they get to be bigger than the standard size as Teri stated above. Also, following Teri's guidance would really be the way to go. Welcome and we hope to hear back from you soon. |
Hello and welcome! If you are looking for a bigger terrier, you may want to consider getting a Silky Terrier - I believe they are generally larger than the Yorkies and quite honestly, there is no guarantee a Yorkie will be big or small unless you get them when they are older and fully grown. |
Thank You for your responses Thank you for your responses. I understand about how often the larger Yorkies come, I think it is 1 in 50. I also understand that the size of the current day Yorkie's are a lot smaller, that is how they are bred. And for AKC, the larger Yorkie's are not desired. So if there is one, I would be interested, but I am not in a complete rush for this. I am testing the waters to it's availability through this forum. The larger Yorkies size comes from the Skye Terrier blood line, which were bred together towards the beginning. So now, these are almost a rarety to have one. Thanks again all, really appreciate your feedback.:) |
