LF: Male Biewer Puppy around Ontario
 
I am looking for a new puppy to join my family of a 6 year old ShihTzu boy Charlie and 4 year old Yorkie boy Mac. I would prefer a Biewer puppy in Ontario but would consider from a breeder in the USA - very close to the Niagara Falls border.

I am looking to pick up a puppy mid December and so am searching for a breeder now. I've already been in touch with -
- Niagara Biewers,
- Garden Grown Biewers and
- Biewers.com of Ottawa
None can promise mid December availability.

Are there any other reliable Biewer breeders around central or southern Ontario? Thanks for any leads to a new boy to complete my family.

I have to ask if the puppy is intended as a Christmas present? Because a lot of breeders won't sell their puppies if the puppy is intended as a gift. Needing mid-December availability is very specific, you may need to be more flexible about when you get a puppy...

Thank you for your response. This puppy is definitely NOT a Christmas present. It is for myself and I know I am being specific for pick up time - as I would like to pick it up at the beginning of my 3 week vacation. That way I can spend 3 weeks to ensure the transition goes well and to start training the pup and introducing it to my other 2 dogs. I will be crate-training the puppy so that by the end of my three week vacation my other dogs will be used to it (and it used to them) and I can leave it in a crate within the kitchen area, while I go back to work. I can't pick up the puppy if I'm not on vacation.

Liz, try Brenda Green....Greens Treasured Yorkies, member Breny on here...I believe she has Parti yorkies...she is in Michigan, I have spoken too her, she will meet you part way at the bridge.

That sounds great! Being able to be with the puppy 24/7 for the first few weeks will make things so much easier. :D I think breeders will understand in your case.

We actually got Jax in mid-December a couple years ago, not really as a Christmas present, the timing just worked out that way. When we took him in to the vet they asked us if he was a Christmas present, and when we said no, you could see the relief in the vet and 2 techs!

Thank you (again) Jacqui! I may try her if the current options don't work out. By Wednesday I'll know if I'm getting a puppy from Garden Grown Biewers in Midland, Ontario. She will hold the male "nutmeg" until Dec 14 IF she decides to keep a female of her pups. She would hold the male for me at no charge if she decides to keep a female to breed with. Or she also offer me co-ownership of a puppy that she would pay for (from a different breeder) as she needs a new male for her breeding line. She would pay for the puppy (that we both agree on) and I would keep him (intact) and pay all vet/food/training bills. She would borrow him about 4-6 times a year for breeding. After 6 years the dog would be mine outright (retired). I'm not sure if I want to go that route. I'd rather have a puppy that is mine from the start and get him neutered right away. She and I will decide if we will go with either option by Wednesday. :)

Thanks for understanding my vacation restrictions. I so hate when people buy animals (any kind) for Christmas!! :thumbdown:mad::( The animals never win in those cases.

If you get the breeding male be prepared to keep belly bands on him for life, even after neutering. It is VERY difficult to train them not to mark after that habit has formed, trust me!

OMG OMG OMG! Gail in Midland (of Garden Grown Biewers) has agreed to hold a puppy for me until mid December!!! OMG I'm getting a Biewer!!! :D I will be going to visit her on Sunday to make a decision as to exactly which one. I'm about to start running around in circles myself - I'm so excited! :jump28ib:

Here's a bunch of pics of the wee guy - only 19 ounces right now (7 weeks old).

Does anyone know anything about puppy cataracts? Someone mentioned it looked like he might have some cataract shadows in the back of his eyes - or maybe it was the camera. I don't know what to look for but if anyone else can confirm or deny. I would like to know beforehand as I don't want a "defective" puppy!

Liz, he is adorable!!!! I'm not seeing cataracts at all, I see the way the camera hit his eyes....what a little cutie!!!

Thank you so much Jacqui!! I am a nervous wreck now. I even left a voicemail for the breeder asking her to specifically ask the vet, when they go this week, to check for any sign of cataracts in this puppy, just to ease my mind.

I feel soooo much better now - my breeder just called to say she too is sure it's just the camera (as I thought) too. She specifically looked at the puppy from all angles and different lighting and cannot see anything but she said that she will ask the vet to look extra diligently at this guy to ensure nothing at all is abnormal in any way whatsoever. Gail is such a good and open person - and from what I saw ALL her dogs are so very well looked after and adore her as well. She is going to call me as soon as she gets back from the vet later this week. :thumbup:

Teddy (I think that will be his name) is so darn cuddley! He didn't put up a fuss at all when I laid him on his back in one hand and stoked his belly with my other hand - he just relaxed with his paws up and looked at me like he had all the time in the world to be petted. :love:
