I don't know any breeders personally however there are Some reputable breeders here on YT. You need to meet the Breeder , the pups parents and the pup before you buy. I do not ever recommend meeting someone half way as most often there is a reason the seller doesn't want you at their home & those reasons are not normally good reasons & most often because they are hiding something. ;) |
I agree with lillymae, you must visit the breeders home to insure that the breeding pair is being treated humanely. Breeders who sell directly to public and over the internet do not have to have a license and therefore no official agency inspects their kennels. It's up to the private buyer to make sure the breeding facilities are humane. I always recommend the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American (YTCA) for breeder referrals, because there is usually someone within a few hours driving distance. Remember the YTCA breeders are not in the “business” of selling dogs, you will have to build a relationship with them, and it’s better to get on a waiting list than to buy from a backyard breeder. Here's some of the NY breeders: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club. Don't just email them, follow up with a call. Tell them about yourself in an email, and tell them you will call them later. Ask them questions about their breeding program, and tell them about your lifestyle, so they can know if a Yorkie is right for you at this point in your life. You can learn a lot by talking to a great breeder. |
Please be very careful of purchasing a puppy in the NYC area. There are several puppy mills that claim to be breeders. There are also several puppy boutiques that will claim that their puppies came from a "breeder". They will rip you off and sell you a sick puppy. For example, Pets on Lex is located on the upper east side. They claim that they have the most beautiful, healthy, happy teacup purebred breeds in the world - LIE. They also claim that America's most prestigious purebred puppy and kitten breeders have chosen Pets on Lex to represent them in the New York marketplace. - BS.
