Big Yorkies? I understand that it is fashionable to have a "teacup" yorkie or whatever. But personally, I find it offensive and disgusting to want your dog to be the size of an apple. A few years ago I had a wonderful yorkie male who was probably about 12-14 pounds, and I loved the little guy. I found that his throw-back nature to be great, he had none of the health problems smaller yorkies have. He even seemed to be happier than our smaller 5-6 pound yorkie. He was so attached and bonded to me, as I was to him, and I miss him a lot. I would really love to have a new yorkie, that would be a good healthy size. The problem with this is-- breeders boast smaller yorkies. I have yet to find one that says "Want an old ancient powerful throw back Yorkie? Who is loving kind and will bond powerfully? So what if they will ever win a competition? Come over here!" Thank you if anyone has any information! |
I too had a 10 pound yorkie,,he was awsome. I would love to ffind another larger yorkie,but cant seem to find one |
Whenever I have looked for a new Yorkie, I was surprised to see how many, many large Yorkies out there in my area in North Texas as I didn't know that much about the breed and thought they were all under 10 lbs. I searched in the 90's and again in 2007-2008 and both eras offered up large versions. I hope you find your teapot! And when you do, pictures and stories will be so much appreciated. Good luck! |

I know what you mean. I have 3 Biewers...my 2 girls are sisters and just about double the standard weight at 13 and 15 pounds. I also have a small male that is 5 or 6 pounds. I prefer the size of my girls to Peanut's size. |

Marley is 3 lbs and I am not sure if she is going to get any bigger but I am constantly worrying about her getting hurt because she is so small and fragile! Good luck with your search. |
Find you a good breeder. They will sometimes have smaller ones as well as bigger ones from time to time. |
yorkie girl 14 weeks Hi. I have a yorkie girl presently available. Her name is Kira, she is very outgoing and unafraid... loving and playful. She weighed 49 oz at 12 weeks, and is charting at approx. 6.5 lbs. I live in Southeastern Michigan - so not too far away. Lily is 9.6lbs. Don't be discouraged, there are many breeders that have standard yorkies. They are not "supposed" to exceed 7lbs. Stick around here and you just might find a great breeder |
Hi, My wife and I have and 8# male, a 10 and a 13# female. I TOTALLY agree. We also have Gizmo, our 4.4# dog. I love him because he's so cute and he is good natured, but the 13#'er is my favorite. She has a great personality and makes sure taht you "love on her". I don't feel like I'm going to break the bigger dogs. They are all very easygoing, loving Yorkies, but we're going to let the 8, 10, and 13#ers go. (I only refer to them that way because in this thread you're talking about wanting a bigger yorkie.) Their names are Candy, Missy (Gidget), and the boy is Cedar. We really want to find them good, loving homes. We JUST got all their shots done. I just joined on here and saw your thread. I just got a "teapot" yorkie and he is such a sweetheart. I have a "smaller" yorkie also. I had a yorkie when I was a small child and my mother says that he was the size of my "teapot". I agree with what the other person said as far as the yorkies are not like they used to be. I wonder why that is? My boyfriend seems to think that the "teapot" is of a mix breed but I do not think so. |
Suzi was at the 7Lb range on her last vet checkup. BUT , now she is bigger. Only because I was concerned about my shih tzu not geting enough to eat, so I mixed in evo red meat. A super high protein kibble. Well it was only a month ago and I swear Suzi has gained a few pounds! Now could be considered a teapot. I think a lot of it is what your feeding your yorkie. Some of these toy breeds love their food, and this can contribute to their size. Suzi is a beautiful, loving, energetic yorkie . When I got her she was so little. She could fit in my hands. Now she is 3 years old , and a whole lot bigger. Their is just more to love when it comes to our larger yorkies. :) |
