female yorkie in RI area to call my own?? Still on my search for the yorkie for me... no luck yet.. :( all i want is a healthy female baby i can love.. (absoloutley open to a rescue pup) willing to drive.. but would like one for a reasonable price.. (i guess that is alot to ask for if you want a healthy baby.. i know i know) just thought i could give it a try and post this.. |
There are plenty of reputable breeders in New England - and you should save your money and wait for one of those puppies to become available. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish like I was - I've spent more money than I care to remember on sick dogs from questionable places. There is a world of difference between a well bred yorkie and a crappy one and it is NOT just about looks. The other option is rescue. This place seems to have a lot of yorkies that show up on petfinder - they are in Cumberland RI. I do not know anything about them other than I've seen their listings but you might want to give them a try. Welcome to Just A Touch Rescue |
Good Luck in your search.....don't rush..... |
First off, welcome to YT. It's always nice to see others from RI. You may want to try: Home I know Betty, and know she has upcoming litters. As far as price goes - you really shouldn't pick a breeder based on who sells the cheapest puppies. Pricing really goes by the overall qualty (genetics/testing/etc.) of the dog - and you get what you pay for, so please ask a lot of questions. Good luck! |
Definately take your time and ask all the right questions! I think it is great that you are considering a rescue baby. Maybe the address given above will help with that! Yorkies are an amazing breed but there are also a lot of things to consider when picking one to add to your family. To make sure it is the best fit for you & the pup, find a breeder or rescue that you can trust. One that will answer ALL of your questions without hesitation, will provide you with health & breeding history and provides you with a good health contract (in the case of a sale). You might check with YTCA.org -- there is a breeder referral page there that will show breeders in your state. Some may ask more than you would normally like to pay, but you will get a GREAT health guarantee, know that your pup is well-bred and free from genetic and acquired conditions. Saves money in the long run, knowing you are starting with a healthy, well bred dog! All puppies look adorable but some do not even grow up to look like the yorkie we all have in mind when we pick out a pup. So, pick a breeder first and then look at their puppies! |

There are no YTCA breeders in Rhode Island, but there are several in Massachusetts and Connecticut. I spoke to several of them when we were looking for a dog two years ago. If I were buying another today, however, I would be looking to buy from a YTCA member who was an active show breeder who not only was on the cutting edge of issues facing the yorkshire terrier and taking active steps to reduce the indicence of disease and faults within the breed, but someone that would forge a long standing relationship with me and my dog. I would be looking for a very special type of breeder and I would travel to other places to find that person next time. |
