Wanted Male of female Yorkie
 
Hi a friend of mine is looking for a yorkie for her parents as a replacement for when she moves out since her nephew and niece are crazy about him. Must be on the big side nothing less than 5 pounds thats her yorkies weight. Sex not an issue I believe. Must like kids and get along well with her male dog for when she visits. Price range less than $800. Thanks.

Max is actually $500. Doesn't have to be a puppy. But must love little kids. Youngest child is 3 months.

She told me she did but they say no kids or no dogs. = /

The no kids part I understand, especially with one as young as 3 months. Other dogs is really a case by case.
A friend of mine has 5 and 4 year old girls. In our visit they weren't exactly gentle with my then 6 lb boy. I tried my hardest to get the girls to sit before allowing him near them, but they're kids. They have short attention spans. :rolleyes: 6 lbs (or his now 7) isn't big at all, and they were able to carry him, and when they were mean, trip him as he was trying to get away. He now can't stand kids. Their golden however was more equip to handle their rough play. There are breeders that will adopt to people with kids, but most won't.
Have you considered a larger breed dog for those kids?

Yeah, most rescues will say no with such young kids. At least i would, as a foster mom, and probably wouldn't even call them. Most young kids don't know how to behave around yorkies or other small dogs. I always cringe when small kids come into my shop "just to see Uni". They scream, run, pick her up by the paws (that only happened once). Most often they say corner her! or Trap her! Dogs don't like to be cornered or trapped, but kids don't know this.

Shelters may be more lax than rescues. Also some people have had luck with private rehomes from Craigslist, but troll CL at your own risk.

also, older adult dogs, such as retired breeders can be placed or adopted at a lower cost. Puppies are usually the most expensive, and also have the most "up in the air" as far as looks, health, temperament, etc.

There is also a 1 year and 10 month old boy. Her family has always had dogs so the children know that her yorkie is not a toy. You must have misread I'm not looking for a yorkie my friend is. Her parents are done with big dogs so larger breeds wont do.

Yes I understand thats why I wrote that it doesn't have to be a puppy as long as it kid friendly.

Good luck in your search! I have 2 children and they are wonderful with small dogs. They have been taught how to treat them though and are gentle with them and respectfully of their size. Yes, they have to be trained on how to treat them, but children and small dogs can definitely live together with proper parenting.

Thank you and you are right on proper parenting sadly some people don't do that.

I understand what your saying, but I'm not sure if you get what I'm trying to say, so I apologize. I'm saying, being with a rescue, if I see a family has small children, i may not even call them for an over the phone screening, if I have another family who has no children or their children are grown, no matter what age the dog is. so I agree with you that a rescue group may be a difficult route for your friend to go.

Both my grandson's grew up from the get go with my yorkies and they were great.. and kacee was only just over three pounds.. they are now 20 and 16 and I could not have asked for better boys..
Sometimes I think it is the parents...But myself I would have to know a person pretty well before a baby of mine would go to such a young family..But there are larger yorkies that could handle children much better if your friend has given that a thought...Hope this helps

When I said larger breed, I didn't mean go for a golden retriever, just something larger than a yorkie. Something that is sturdy and can handle rough play. Like a beagle, they're bigger but definitely not large, or a mini Australian Shepard. They are so pretty! They can still be picked up, smaller than larger breeds like labs, but way studier than my boy. One plays with my dog and my friends. She's so spunky! Or, like mypreciouspups said, look for a larger (teapot) yorkie. I guess my point is, don't be surprised if a lot of breeders/rescues/shelters have reservations placing such a small breed dog with a family that has kids all under the age of 2.
