Looking for Yorkie in SoCal
 
Hey guys, I'm pretty new here and it would be great if I got some help. My parents are letting me purchase a pup, and I've been trying to find some but it's hard to find good sellers/breeders..>.<

I'm just looking for small, cute, fun Yorkie puppy for a companion. Male or female is fine, as long as the puppy is intelligent and has an awesome personality but I would still like the Yorkie to be no more than 8-10 lbs when adult. Any information would be great. Thanks so much

I would look for a good breeder. Get a health guarantee. Do your homework. I would look on YTCA.com look up breeders close to you and start calling them. See if you can be put on a list to get a puppy. Talk with a few breeders and see who you click with. When you buy a puppy you should have a breeder to fall back on for advise and help. Hope this helps! Just wondering, have you had a yorkie before? Mia is my first and only yorkie.....for now!

Puppies should be a minimum of 12 weeks of age, minimum of 2 vaccinations, vet check and a good guarantee. They should be free of parasites, however, taking them to your vet for a check up can identify, if there is a problem. Most breeders require this to be done within a certain amount of time.

Thanks. I do have a question though, how come some people sell them at 8 weeks? My friend told me that people just sell their puppies at 12 because no one bought them at 8? That didn't really help xD

And, I understand that I should always meet the breeder and witness the environment that the puppy was raised/born in along with the parents of the pup. But I also see a lot of people who are from other states that will fly in the puppy to my airport as long as i pay the shipping bill...I don't really like that, is that safe at all? >.<

This was taken from YTCA website from the code of ethics

All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks
of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and
temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs.

I personally feel like a yorkie puppy is much better fit for it's new home after 12 weeks, they are more confident and better socialized. And have already began potty training in many cases:) Making it easier for them to adapt.

As far as shipping, I would try to avoid it if you can find a good breeder in your area that is much better. You want to talk to the breeder and develop a relationship with them. You may end up calling them many times as the puppy grows with questions and for advice, It is nice to have a breeder that you can trust and is willing help you if needed. The YTCA has a breeder contact list and that is a wonderful place to start. There are 11 breeders listed for Calif and 7 for OR. I am sure that you will be able to find your perfect puppy within driving distance. Plus then you will have about 300 extra that you didn't spend on shipping and can use to start spoilling your new baby:)

You're friend is incorrect. As a rule was posted from the YTCA Code of Ethics and Conduct. There is another reason not place puppies at such an early age, they are just being weaned, and often when moved to a new household they will tend to go off food. Hyperglycemia is a danger at that age. Another reason not to ship puppies.....I never do, for that reason and I want to meet my new families face to face.

I'm sure you've already been to the YTCA.org breeder referral site. Go back and read the code of ethics and conduct...not every breeder follows it to a "T", but it should give you some education.
