yes i called her but she was a little rude, and said something about not wanting her dog to go to a family with children and i have a 4 year old son ( a loving family is a loving family weather i have a child shouldn't influence a sellers choice in a home) so... she was also very strict on a neutering / spaying contract so that didnt work for me. but htank you fo rhte reply please keep my posted if you hear or see anything...... |
hmmm Please don't take the the breeder's response to your 4 year old as rude... Susan is a responsible breeder and looking out for the welfare of her puppies. I do not let my own pups go to families with very small children as they (the children) don't truly understand how "breakable" a puppy is. |
i find that rule to be very unfair! i mean i understand that the people want to look out for the puppys, but how do they know the children will hurt them? when i got my yorkie i had a 6 and 1 year old in the house. this dog has never been hurt by either of them and has 2x as much love and affection playing with the children outside and what have you... in my eyes these people should not be SO strict and EXPENSIVE because thats WHY people go and buy from puppy mills!! not everyone can meet the perfect criteria, but might be the best family ever for the dog!!! does anyone agree? |
My yorkies don't go to anyone with toddlers either. i don't care if the toddler has been around dogs since the day it was born and raised close with them. So have my grandchildren. They know not to touch grandma's dogs and are not even allowed in the room with them unless I am there and they are sitting on the floor. i made this rule ater watching my three year old grand daughter, who "has been around dogs all her life and knows how to be good and kind to them, stumble and fall nearly killing one of mine. People who claim their children never have had an accident or hurt one have been very fortunate. it is too much of a risk to take. I admire breeders who are particular where they let their puppies go. I know adults also have accidents and are clumsy at times but it does happen more with children. we have actually had cases on here where two and three year old children fell on dogs and killed them. So don't be too hard on the breeder. Also, not many are going to give you, someone they don't know, open registration on a dog to breed. they don't know what your level of experience is with breeding. |
the puppy would not be for my son and with him going to school next year it would barely be around him. the puppy was for me. i am very responsible and a stay at home mother. im not sure nor have i put any real thought into breeding my future puppy but as a buyer why shouldn't i be able to keep my options open instead of being forced to sign a contract... one woman i contacted even said that she would sell me the breeding rights for $500 extra... how rediculouse. i think the true reason for all of this crazyness with the breeding is for greediness and possibly scared of future compitition! all i want is a beautiful puppy that i can spoil as my little pet. i may in the long run decide that i DONT want to breed her. who knows!!! anyway.... im still looking for my preciouse little girl pup....... |
Thats not uncommon for a breeder to ask more for a dog with breeding rights. You are buying into their lines and their hard work |

I agree completely! I'm not a breeder, but do know first hand how young children approach small dogs. My niece's son is prime example of why I would never sell a puppy to a family with young children. We have Christmas Eve at our home every year and this year he was pretty mobile running all around. He went to try to grab one of my yorkies and while Brody was trying to get away I saw him squeezing him so he'd keep still. Personally I almost freaked out! No matter if you are a good parent and have great kids, small dogs are very easily hurt by aggressiveness play. Young children/toddlers don't understand the concept of that, no matter what they are taught. Same goes for the elderly. I can't even tell you how many times my babies were almost stepped on by my father that night. . . |
I don't have a problem with small children as long as I meet them first. My kids have always been good around my babies. I have some small nieces and nephews that I don't let around my babies. They usually follow me like they are stuck like glue when they are around. I wouldn't sell a puppy to them though. But I have met some really great people with well behaved kids that I wouldn't mind. But like I said meeting them is the first step. My babies are really fast and hide really well when they know danger is present.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
