I think you will have a difficult time finding a Biewer breeder who doesn't require a contract. |

Perhaps this should be clarified to no reputable breeder.... |
I'm not sure what you mean by 'does not require a contract'. Do you mean no contract at all or do you mean you want certain things in a contract? Reputable Biewer breeders will require a contract of some sort...now...what you and that breeder agree to in your contract is up to you. If you don't breed and you have no intentions of breeding then having a spay/neuter clause in a contract should not be an issue and I don't see how it would or could affect a grooming competition. Having the clause where the dog goes back to the breeder if you can no longer care for it shouldn't be a problem either. So, why no contract? |
I don't want this to turn into a bad thread. The problem that im having is the breeder that i am finding. is they do not want me to show nor breed.them i think if im going to Buy a $ 3,000 pet i should be able to show my pet..now the part that if i cannot take care of my pet, i would return them back to the breeder. i have know problem with this.. and for this reason is why im looking for a breeder where i can get this taken care of.. I am a master Groomer and i know what im doing i take great care of my pets i have no kids and my pets are my kids. I have one wheaten scottish terrier. and i have been showing her for the past 3 years.so far so good.:animal-pa |
While the pet pricing can vary a great deal...the figure you mentioned sounds like pet pricing to me. Show/breed pricing is generally in the 3500 dollar range for a male. Most of biewer breeders I'm familiar with are very particular to whom they allow breeding rights. Are you showing your wheaton in confirmation? |
So, it is not that you don't want a contract, you just want full registration! Totally different! Sine you also started your question out with the idea that you want ot get to know the Biewer breeder and are not looking to purchase for a few months, that should open some doors. I think some say they only sell on limited registration, but if they get to know you, see your intent on becoming a responsible, educated breeder, they might be willing to change it to full registration down the line. Many don't want to do it up front as they cannot tell if the puppy is going to be breeding quality. But if you have one of their pups on limited registration, they turn 18-24 months old and not only meet breed standard but also have the spunk and attitude for a show dog; they might be willing to open it up to full registration. By then they can see your intent with the dog and have a better idea of your knowledge and ethics. You might also inquire as to joint ownership of one of the Biewer show dogs. That way you can get your foot in the door! |
If you are being asked to pay $3,000.00 for a pet Biewer you need to find a different breeder...most pet Biewers do not cost that much. If you want to find a breeder, get to know them and allow them time to get to know you to feel they can trust you with their lines then that's a different story. If you are looking for a pet then you should be able to find one for a reasonable price. But you must know that Biewers change a lot in the first year so finding one that has been evaluated for conformation and health, that has been deemed worthy of breeding and that a breeder will sell may be another story. Biewers are a new breed in the U.S. and reputable breeders who truly care about the breed don't just sell them to the first person with a few $$ in their hand...if you come accross a breeder who does then you should look elsewhere. I have turned down more homes than I have accepted for my puppies. My husband jokes with me that not all of my puppies can live in the White House and my reply to him is "I'm not looking for the White House...I'm just looking for the Right House". Have you joined a Biewer breed club or any of the Biewer forums? You will be able to meet some wonderful Biewer breeders and pet owners on their forums and joining a club is a lot of fun...getting together with the other members at shows is a blast. That way they will get to know you, and you will get to know them. Take your time and find the breeder who stands for the same things you do, get to know the breed and the history behind it...get to know what looks different breeders have and what look you would like to show/breed for. The Biewer is a controversial breed for sure so also be prepared to come accross many thoughts, opinions and beliefs about the breed's past, present and future. I would say getting involved with a club and joining a couple of the forums would be a good first step. Good luck in your journey...if you would like some help along the way I would be glad to do what I can. If you would like to PM me I can send you the names of a few reputable breeders that I know. |

Jhurt has a for sale ad here...she has one female she'd like to place in a show home. |
What wonderful responses... and I agree whole heartedly with them. If you are interested in the Biewer breed enough to possibly breed and/show.. it is worth your time to learn all you can about them before you jump in. For sure, join some of the forums and get to know the breeders. I don't know any reputable breeder that will sell a Biewer as a breeder/show prospect to someone they don't know or someone who has been personally referred to them. Prices vary, even for pet Biewers..it depends on the parentage, the puppies age, the expected adult weight and many other things. Males are usually less expensive than females, dogs that are expected to be "out of standard" in size, coloring etc are usually less expensive than puppies that "look" like they will fit standard (7 lbs and under). Once you learn more about the breed, you'll see a difference in the quality of the puppies being produced. I doubt you'll find a breeder that produces quality dogs open to place their puppies with someone that they have not formed a relationship with, even for a pet home. For dogs suitable for breeding/showing, I would expect to have to travel to find a breeder you can work with as well as suitable dogs. That's why, if your seriously looking into the Biewer, my advice would be to get on the forums and get to know different breeders and what they produce. Let them get to know you, you will increase the possiblity that someone will sell you a puppy by going this route... if takes time to develop the relationships that you'll need, but in the end, it's worth it. Best of luck on your quest. -Diana :animal-pa |
