Female Yorkie needed
 
Hello all, im new to the forums, i have been researching yorkies for a little bit, my gfs birthday is coming up in april and i would love to buy her a yorkie, she has wanted one since childhood and i want to finally ger her one, however i dont know as much as some of you may know, any info is appreciated, im looking for a baby female yorkie, preferably one that is smaller in size, one last thing, i may be crazy but i noticed that most are very expensive, i dont know if that is due to how they were bred or not, im looking for one a little less expensive if that is possible, let me know, thanks

Welcome. What a great gift for your GF. I would read about breeders on here and keep an eye on the for sale thread here. We have some great breeders. I hope you find one for her.

Not sure what your price range is? You can take a look at my site if you want since I have two litters. The prices on my site are applicable only for the 6 babies. The new babies born 2 days ago are not priced yet and will be at least double those prices for various reasons. (The 4 new ones are not for sale now anyway:) Good luck!

thanks for the welcome everyone. Sorry jasmenea, prices are a bit to high for me, like i said im not looking for one with a champion background, just a cute little girl yorkie for my gf, doesnt have to be a show winning yorkie.

Maybe you could try kijiji.com in your area or breeders.net in your area. Probably if your requested price is low you will be able to find one in rescues. I think puppyfinder.com may be one to look at! Good luck :):)

I think it is so sweet of you to buy your girlfriend a yorkie for her birthday. I really hope that you'll surprise her with the thought but allow her to look for the puppy with you. I think it's important that she have a say in the dog she gets and I would be wary of any breeder that allows you to buy a puppy as a surprise gift. Also it is expensive to raise a litter properly and if the puppies are too cheap then most likely no health screening was fine. Yorkiss have so many health issues common to the breed. It's better to spend more for a healthy pup from a good breeder than buy a cheap pup from a backyard breeder that may cost you far more in vet bills.

I'm going to second that! I bought mine for cheaper because I too couldn't afford the expensive puppies.....but I have already spent soooo much in vet bills, getting her a nutritionist, testing, etc... because she most likely has a liver shunt. I say most likely because we aren't finished with the testing...so there goes even more money! I'm not scared away from the breed...I LOVE Bella and will get another one (soon I hope), but this time I'll be buying from someone who has done that testing to insure my new baby won't have any health issues. You may not spend much up front, but it may cost you a LOT LOT more down the road...I'd rather come up with the expensive (but in the long run considerably less) amount. Just giving you first hand experience with that....and there are LOTS of others. Check out the Health and Diet or Sick & Injured / Emergencies forum and you're bound to see someone else with the same problem.

Take your time in selecting a good breeder. In regards to Yorkies being expensive--breeding ethically is not a cheap venture. Breeders have costs invested in their programs that they have to try to cover by charging for the pups they decide to place, therefore the dogs are not cheap. (In short, it's not just your imagination, but it's jusfyable.)

If your funds are limited, your best bet would be to try a rescue or shelter. Generally rehoming fees are considerably less than what a breeder charges for a new pup.

thanks for the info everyone, im talking to two breeders right now fairly close to me, i dont want to buy a cheap puppy that is going to have problems, but like i said i am a college student and cant afford what most go for, so i just have to take my time and find something that works.

A suggestion, for helping you determine if it's a fair price:
Talk with the breeder and find out what costs they have invested that they are trying to cover--vet bills, proper medical testing, cost of stock, show expenses, supplies, etc. An honest breeder would be more than willing to share that with you and it will tell you if they are doing what's right by the dogs, or just breeding to make a quick buck. Check for references, ask to talk to other owners of their dogs. Ask here if anyone has ever dealt with them.

Patience and research are key, but with persistance, you'll find what you are looking for. :)
