On the search for my second... Hoping that everyone will keep me in mind in the North Carolina area...I have decided to get a companion for Romeo, my 7 month old (he will be 7 months tomorrow) male. He weighs 3 1/2 pounds. I am looking for another male but I am not completely against a female. The one thing I do want is one that will be in the same weight bracket as Romeo. I would want him or her to top out at not more than 4 1/2 pounds. He is a very gentle, non-agressive boy. He is definatley a mama's boy and he is starting to have seperation anxiety something fierce. A second one would make all of us happy, I'm sure, including my husband who is jealous that Romeo won't cuddle with him like he does me! I don't want one shipped, I would be willing to drive 4 hours and the max I can pay is $800. I would appreciate any help in my search! |
A little dissapointed... Went to look at 4 females this afternoon. Took Romeo with me. They were from a home breeder and personally I think too young..6 weeks old...but I expected Romeo to act different. He was scared and didn't want to have anything to do with ANY of them. If they touched him, he tried to get away and once while holding him, one jumped on him and he actually growled a little. He has acted SO good with people and other dogs so far..I don't know if it was because there were too many, too rambunctous or what...so we decided to pass and my husband says he just needs to be an "only child" but I don't want to give up...I do think I need to get one between 4 and 6 months old though...I think a 4 month old would be good. He is 7 months today so I feel like I'm running out of time. I know the longer I wait the harder it will be....he starts puppy class next week and I know that will help... |
I think if you were in your own home and had only one puppy instead of 4, Romeo would probably be more relaxed. :p |
This past week I brought home a new puppy and Sydney acted scared. They are playing now so it just takes time for them to get used to each other.. (Sydney is over a year old) |
I agree with you guys...I'm sure he was overwhelmed and a tad jealous. I don't feel like a made a bad choice though. They just didn't "do it" for me. I'm leary about taking one so young too...I found an adorable one but it's way out of my price range...I'll just have to be patient! |
You were in a strange home with new and way different smells to him. He acted normal. I would not reccommend taking him with you when looking only unless you know the people. You just don't know what they might have there when you show up at a stranger's house. No way! I even change my clothes and wash my shoes (in the garage - clothes and shoes don't even get in my house) when coming back from pet stores, shows, etc... You just need to be careful. I say this with love for your baby. Good luck on your search! :) T. |
