Belly Bands I have no idea where to put this, so I'll ask you guys! I've never used Belly Bands on Bingo. He has been marking for a while. He goes out to potty just fine, but keeps marking. He won't use a potty pad. So I'm thinking of going with a belly band. Especially for when we're traveling and staying in hotels for shows. My questions are, how often do you change them? I've heard they are more prone to infections from them. Is that a big issue? So do you put a little pad in there or something? TIA! |

I change them 4 times a day....but always wash them with a baby wipe before putting it on again.....I've not had an infection problem....but, then my boys are running outside alot without them..... |
What do you use to absorb? And I'm assuming that velcro isn't good for a show coat. So do you use snaps? |
Hey Fannie!! Honestly, I don't know about show dogs... but Don Juan was driving me crazy with the marking issue... I made the belly bands with fleece, and saw some towel fabric (terry??? ) like 4 layers of it... and velcro. I just hate to use the disposable pads, and went crazy making like 6 of them... I use it only during the day, and obviusly take it off when he goes outside, and during night time... I change them any time I see it dirty or wet, and just throw it in the washer... then dryer... voila!! I just happen to preffer the terry clothe because I feel he does not "sweat" in THAT place... hope this helps!! |
I put a cheap pad in Reece's belly band and change it 3 times a day..I only own three lol...and he hasnt had any problems yet...I bought two with snaps and one with velco..both are great..snaps to me are better!! I will be buying more..if you want some really great ones try KimberlyAnn's.. http://puppywraps.com/BellyBands.html She makes awesome bands..fit to perfection..with snaps OR velco..great designs and most importantly WASH UP GRRRREAT!! Ok, so where do you get your's Mardelin? |
So, satin belly bands?? Do you think my "terry square" damages the coat a lot?? Wow, I never thought of that, but I will get some satin!! The only thing I love about the fleece is that is kind of stretchy... but you just made me wonder!!! |
If you are going to be showing him, I would try the silk ones. Contact Chattiesmom, she makes silk bellybands. As for what goes in it, for my boys I use StayFree Maxi scented pads for them. They are wingless and are thick. I have tried several of them for the boys and I like these the best. If they do pee in their band, the pad will keep them dry and they will smell nicer instead of like pee. I change the pads for the bellybands about 4 times a day and use a baby wipe to clean them off each time and comb out the hair otherwise it will get knotted up from the band being on there constantly. It works out nicely. |

Well I can't damage his coat because I am showing him. I will definitely look for some silk or satin. |

That way if you have a dog in wraps it slips between them. |
That makes sense. We aren't doing wraps now, but it's good to think about that in case we end up doing that down the road. |

I use the silk / satin belly bands as well and have not had any problems. I use an Always pad inside of it and change it whenever he has marked. Ashton used to mark like crazy but hardly ever does now when he has the belly bands on. I use baby wipes to keep him cleaned off and don't use them at night when he is in bed with us as he knows not to lift his leg then. The ones that I have use velcro, but as long as the band fits right, it shouldn't cause you any problems. I also pull all of the hair up on both side to make a ponytail on his back (do pigtails on either side if the hair is not long enough). This keeps it from getting matted and also keeps him from peeing on it when he is outside. I then keep that section oiled down pretty well so that it doesn't dry out with the belly band on. |

I was always told never to use a belly band unless you have a silk jacket on them. So I never have but its nice to know that it is being done and not harming the coats. Deana Prestigeous |
I tried the belly bands with the poise pads, but my boys soaked through in under 2 hours!!! I am so afraid they will get bladder infections I quit using them. What am I doing wrong? With 5 boys with the run of the house, I am desperate for something that works when I am work. I'm gone for about a six hour stretch. |
Alot of breeders use the baby diapers and wrap it around the boys belly like you would a belly band. Also pishpads, some people use a 2 litre bottle wrapped with a pish pad and they hike their legs there. Here is the link for pish pads http://www.pishpad.com/ Hope this helps Deana Prestigeous |
