which show lead do u use? I never realized there is more than one kind of show lead out there. For those of you that show, which type of lead do u use? And do u use the same one for training that u use in the ring? |
I use kindness leads with the wider, softer neck pieces. You can find these on line at several places. I prefer the black leads with tan neck pieces. I am going to order my next ones from a Maltese breeder out of Oklahoma. If you would like her address, PM me and I will get that address from my mentor, Mardelin, or you can talk to her. |
I have mine specially made from Magnolia Maltese/Karen. She's made several of mine. She makes them custom according to each dog. Since dogs are more sensitive than others, neck pieces are made for each dog's neck size. Width, length of each neck piece is different. They're made out of satin. I have some neck pieces made braided. She also makes them according to my highth Karen Coleman Magnolia9@aol.com |
I use braided kangaroo leather lead. Vendors sell them at shows for larger breeds but not for small dogs. There is a lady in Canada that does a beautiful job making them for toys. She does a small, tight braid. They are stiff when they are first made but soften quickly. I use Bick leather conditioner on my new ones and they feel like butter in your hand. Be careful where you lay them. I have had 2 stolen this year. Unethical people would rather steal them than to pay $75 to $100 to buy there own. I was at a show this weekend and noticed that the top yorkie was being shown with one. |

Not only will people steal your leads, but they have also been known to steal a table. It's a shame there are people who have to resort to such levels. |
ok. Are the one's Karen makes $75-$100? I did see the kindness lead on a website and I believe it was $15. Now I'm wondering if it isn't the best quality and that's why it's so inexpensive if you all are paying upwards of $75. Is that what I should be expecting to pay? |

No, the ones Karen makes are all satin, custom made and run about $12.00. Satin is kind to a yorkie coat. I've never paid more than $15.00. Well, I take that back, I paid $25.00 for my training lead that has a fur neck piece. |
