Puppy class You have all been so helpful to Lita and Sweet Pea I thought I might beg for some help. My little Izzie is only 12 weeks and I am 'considering' entering her in a puppy class in Aug. She will just be over the 3-6mo limit, so I think I might have to put her in the 6-9mo class :( (I emailed IABCA to see what they say). Anyway...I put her show leash on her tonight and she went CRAZY:eek: . I have put it on her before but just let her pull it around and she seems annoyed but when I finally picked it up WWAAAHHHH. So I just let her be. I have only had her since Fri and I don't want to traumatize her. I did get some treats and say 'look' and treat her when she did. Any suggestions?? Showing looks like fun...but.... I guess it's just harder when you have no real clue what you are doing or if it is right:confused: :confused: I feel for you Lita!!!! |
Congrats on the new baby! My puppy school lets toy breeds into the younger classes. For example, puppy classes that are for pups 8 weeks to 4 months will allow a 6 month toy breed in. As long as the shots are up to date, I would suggest getting your baby into class. Class is as much for you as it is for her, probably more for you at this age! I would also keep doing the leash drag as long as you are around to supervise her. She needs to get used to the leash and that is the best way. Good luck! |

When you put the lead on her let her drag it around the house with you keeping a close eye on her. Then pick it up and let her lead you around before making her do what you want her to do. |
By the way 12 weeks is just a wee bit young to start any training, let her be a pup and make everything fun for her. |
Thank you!! I was thinking she was young, but then I thought 'Aug is really soon'. So...Izzie will be just a puppy! With a little leash drag on the side;) She is such a doll baby I don't want to do anything to cause her any anxiety. I live in No Cal, close to Modesto. About half way between Fresno and Sacto. I think there is a Yorkie club in Lodi or Dublin (there is a show there in Oct) but that is just way too far to go every week. I have searched on line, but there isn't any good info out there. So, I turned to you....I know you will give me the best advice:thumbup: So again, thank you and I will be asking again as time goes on :thumbs up |
