proposed revised AKC standard http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/secretary_page/0507.pdf This is published in the AKC Gazette May issue, YTCA has proposed a new standard, scroll to page 4 far right column continuing on page 5 far left column |
I thought this had already passed a few months ago? i know the ytca had made it a rule unless I am missing something. If it is brand new, where are the changes? |
The disqualification for any color other than described was added. |
I think the revision was to make it perfectly clear the Biewer was not of the yorkshire terrier breed standard, they emphasized the size (if any) white marking not to exceed one inch. |

did ya'll notice the consideration on the last page...allowing Mix breed in competition? |
My understanding is that if the Biewers drop Yorkie out of their name, being Biewer Terriers, the YTCA will support us becoming a separate breed. If that is what it takes, I'm assuming (you know what that word means, though) that the name will become more terrier than yorkie....and the breed will gets its recognition as the spaniels did when they split into other groups, chicuahuas etc. |
wow great info..thanks! |

Are you saying that a chihuahua was once part of the spaniel family?? |
No--but that would be a funny story, I guess. Let's not start another rumor. No there are smooth coated Chi's, long haired--not my breed. Different variations of spaniels that derived from the original variety. Two or three types of Chinese Crested that are judged separately. My original interpretation of the YTCA was recommending was that Biewers would not compete against Yorkies in the same ring. They would be in the toy group but a different breed. Maybe this isn't what they were suggesting, just my read. |
Scrapin they would still compete against the yorkie in groups, the YTCA re-wrote the standard to assure the Biewer would not be classified as a yorkshire terrier no matter what the heritage. |
