Congratulations he is gorgeous!! |
Congrats Top Knot on your new little prospect. He is a doll for sure. Now a serious question here from a wanna be. Tell me, when you saw him, exactly what was it that made you say wow this is the one for me and I think he will be a great show dog. What was it about the other one you decided to say no on. I want to know when you see a pup what do you look for. How do you know he will be steel blue and gold or tan? How do you look at one and know he wont be? What do I look for in a pup that says he is show material. Please help, I really do want to know and you show dogs so you opinion would be greatly appreciated. |
I know this sounds funny, but I do get a twitch when I see a nice pup = that tells me it is a nice pup. For this pup besides the twitch - I looked at his body, nice and compact, level topline (but a topline can go up and down as they mature), then I liked his face - great ears (small, nice shape) and then he did have the green glow (sign of silky coat), and the look of the coat was nice - good quality and seems like it will be silky. I also asked the breeder about personality and the rest, such as bite, etc.... that you can't tell from photos. I also have two from this similar lines and know what they are liked and I love it. I do think he will clear in the head, but will clear a little late, which means he will not be a light blue or silver, which is good. But I do think he will clear. I then looked at his parents qualities and grandparents qualities and then checked and - both parents are champions and two of the four grandparents are champions. Then I looked at the lines. I already knew the breeder and she has been around a long time and has many champions and very reputable. She also knows me and knows that I will show. I hope this has helped. Tina |

I wonder the same thing....seems the "more experienced" show people, not like me and you;...LOL....seem to "just know"......I swear.....someone has to just tell me....."this is the one you should buy, Shirley" ,....then I would know what to do......!!!! It is driving me nuts actually, I just call Tina with my questions......and hope I don't bug her too much!!! LOL |
Shirley - do not worry you could never bug me! I like to help if I can. I have seen a lot of pups over my years and you just know which ones have that look. I got a lot more experience going over dogs in Florida when I lived there, since I belonged to the yorkie club down there and all my friends had yorkies and were showing. We would all get together all the time and go over one anothers pups. It was a great way for a novice to learn from the experienced. We also had Matches too and would bring in all our hopefuls. It was a lot of fun and a great way to learn. :) You would remember the pups - how they looked when young and then you also got to see them all grow up and what they turned out to look like. T. |
I was just visiting your beauties on Dogster. Just stunning, each and every one. WOW, is all I can say.......... |
Thanks so much. I use to show years and years ago and then stopped to raise a family. Now that my kids are all grown I have returned to showing and love it! I use to devote all my waking hours to work and it got a little too much. All work - you know. So now I have found something for me - my yorkies. Actually my dogs give me so much I cannot put it into words. I love them! :p You hope that with every decision you make - you hope it is the right one. I realized that if I was going to start showing again I had to do it right and do the best I could. And so with every decision I made I tried to think careful what would be the outcome. I spent probably 5 years researching before I bought my first yorkie. It is so hard just trying to catch up with the newer lines. I had to look way beyond them. I just hope I can do okay. It is a lot of work, but worth it. T. |
