conformation classes/handlers Does anyone know of any conformation classes or handlers in the Fort Worth Area? Also what is preferred by everyone, showing yourself or hiring a handler? Does anyone have any experiences they would like to share about their first time showing? What are the pro's and con's of hiring a handler or showing yourself:animal-pa thanks :) Judy:) |

I show my own dogs. However, if this is your first dog and it is a good finishable dog, I would highly recommend a handler. The reason I say this is that novices, not knowing what they are doing can ruin a dog. All I can tell you is it takes about 6 months to a year before you really feel comfortable about what you're doing. Learning to anticipate your dogs moves, how to groom a show dog and present it to it's best advantage is a constant learning process and takes time....dog handling is an art, not a science. |

The up side of using a handler is that you share expenses with other clients. |
1 Attachment(s) Mardelin, Do you know where i could check for places in Plano? This is a picture of Wyatt, I know you can't tell much by the pic but i will hopfully get some good ones this weekend. I am hoping that he will be competitive. He's got a good pedigree or at least i think he does his parents are from Lake Buna Vista. I would really like to get into showing but i need help because i don't really know where to start. Attachment 88365 |

Attend as many dog shows, talk to breeders, do reasearch on Pedigrees and exhibitor/kennels.....when you go to dog shows, show that you are really interested and can be trusted and be willing to lend a hand. Believe me exhibitors are always willing to help a newbie that has the best interest of the breed in their hearts. |
