I'm not saying you can't but, AKC rules state, no unentered dogs.....there's a reason for this. One is to protect your dog and they other is at times unentered dogs get a little vocal at ringside and distract the dogs in the ring.

This is my first year showing. I have been showing in ukc and akc. In akc, I have not received any points, but two reserves. My bitch is only 18 months young. I also find there are professional handlers which is hard to compete, since I only do this as a hobby. Their yorkies are in full coat, which my Lipstik is not yet in full coat. It is very political.

In ukc, I have been able to advance Lipstik to a GR CH which is amazing still since I am learning. I find that I enjoy the ukc more and is more relaxed. I am planning to attend the New Kent VA ukc shows. Anyone from here coming to this?

Hey! Going reserve, means the judges are paying attention to her.
I understand that AKC is tougher, but oh so satisfying when your dog obtains their Championship.

Thank you for your kind words. I am going to wait awhile in the akc, at least I keep telling myself that, until she is full coated. I am going to hire a handler for my dog as he has my number, hehe. And I am going to continue with Lipstik in the ukc because I do enjoy that. And now I have a new female puppy, Sizzle(I posted pics last week) and I am hoping she will be a star!

I was thinking of attending New Kent, it's not very far from home. Connor isn't registered UKC and I don't know if there's time to get him a temporary registration. He took reserve in the Va. Beach shows 2 weeks ago. It doesn't hurt so much when the dog that beat him is 3, in full glorious coat, and is absolutely gorgeous. Connor got his point at 7 1/2 monthes old and has the most precious attitude, I have high hopes for him. The hardest part for me is protecting the coat now that it's getting long. I can't stand the thought of isolating him from the other dogs, he and Remi pull his wraps out and even keeping him banded is a pain. His father, grandfather, and great grandfather are all champions so I want to give him a chance to reach his full potential. Maybe I'll hit New Kent on Sunday. Would love to meet you and lipstik.

Just a word of unsolicited advice. Having a dog in full coat is not really necessary, but it does help. In my opinion and it's just mine.....the coat hides faults. I've only brought out one dog in full coat, the rest finished, a little over 1 year old.

I was told early on, if you are a novice and have a good dog, it is best to hire a handler.....as novices we tend to screw up a dog.

Have you tried Radford Yorkshire Terriers or Thimbletip?
My grandmother lives in Radford, it's about 5 hours away. Caraneal is closer but Georgette is one very busy woman I'm sure. I met her handler, the redhead, I'm afraid I found her to be a bit of a snob. Maybe she was just excessively busy, it's not really fair to judge on one's first impression. I don't miss the crowds either. I've been in rural Va. for 14 years now and I'm afraid I've become quite countryfied. The thought of roaming NY City alone scares the snot out of me!

I don't know Georgette personally, though we're both YTCA members. I've not familiar with her handler.

Don't be frightened......we won't leave you alone...I'm sure they'll be other YT members that aren't showing that you can hook up with too.....We'll have to start another thread and find out.

Thanks for the advice. I am new so still learning. I have been taking handling classes and this person saw me show Lipstik recently and thought that I was doing well, and I am sure she would have critique'd me as she normally does. She thought I did well. But I agree with you about the prof. handlers advancing much faster. In addition, they are known by the judges who frequently prefer them for their expertise.

Good idea! Would you like to do the honors or shall I? You'd probably get better response since you are better known around here.
