The previous post by Rizzi was great info! What you put in your dog is just as important as what you put on it. I use Vellus products strictly now on my show coats. So far so good and I'm in love with the products. The Satin Cream used along with the Static Stabilizer will grow coat; atleast it does at my house, lol. I tried a Cowboy Magic Detangle and Shine on one of mine and I had a heck of a time getting the product out of the coat. It left an oily residue that took me a week to get out. Thank goodness I didn't use it on my girls who are showing. I used my boy as a guniea pig, lol. |

I've never used any of the products you used. But, there is one peice of advise that was passed onto me by a hairdresser and I've latched onto it. When working with greasy and oily products and you want to make sure you get everything out without damaging your hair, in this case coat. Add baking powder to your shampoo. It's the one of the most natural was of clarifying a coat. My Go-Go had an ear infection and I was treating with Otomax (greasy) and was do to show her and tried her recommendation......got all the oilyness out...... |

Oh wow, thanks! I appreciate the info and would have never thought something so simple could fix some of my worst probs. I bathed my boy in Coat Handler's clarifying twice before I got it out. Thanks Mardelin!! |
I have used Tree Tea Oil shampoo too to clense a coat and it works too. Just becareful not to get in their eyes. It is a natural herb too, from what I know. But the Baking Powder sounds better. T. |
Nice tip!!! Reggie is my little guy who is so prone to ear infections (hairy little ears), and I hate the greasiness, I wish I had known that before! ( now when I think of it he has not had an ear infection in well over a year...:) ) |
Wow thanks to all the experts on here that have shred advice and tips! i have learnt so much, about growing a healthy coat! Also thanks for the link to www.dog-bows.com , i am ordering some emu oil and some shaws conditioner, that website is excellent! :) |
I have another question, do any of you think that spaying changes the bitches coat? Duchess had a lovely coat before, it grew fast and was silky and tangle free, since she was spayed we gave her a summer cut and her coat is growing back so so so slow and it tangles really easily. Could it be because of hormonal changes? thanks :) By the way Duchess is 16 and a 1/2 months old and was spayed at 8 onths old. |
