How do you? How do you keep your show dogs belly? BY that I mean to you shave them down, or keep it shorter than the rest of the body. I know most of you wrap there hair, and I do it every so often but my male still get pee on his hair and it's sooooooo grosssssssssssss! What do you guys do? Thanks, Liza  |
Keep the side coat wrapped up and wash the under belly every evening with self wash on a wash cloth, comb thru, spray lightly with whatever of choice, and wrap back up. Keeping the Penis hair cut is up to the individual. My mother always tought me to keep it long as it made a "wick" for the pee to go down instead of just spraying all over the belly.. less to clean up..of course that has to be removed when the dog is breeding so as not to irritate the penis.. If you aren't showing your male, it is okay to put him in what is called a "false skirt" which means shaving out his belly up to the start of his rib cage..then when he goes outside to potty, put his skirt on his back with a scrunchie in a pony tail, and after he comes back inside, let it down, and it should eleviate a lot of the problem. |

The problem with having an intact male is they are stud dogs or wanna be stud dogs. So they tend to do a lot of spraying, so if you have one doing that, you really need to put him in wraps, even if you only put one on each side in the middle there where it gets wet. Hope this helps. |
Thanks ladies, I've been lucky so far, he doesn't pick up his leg nor sprays yet, but he might still be young. He is 10 months old and I sure hope he doesn't start now. I guess I will keep him wrapped, I previously shaved his belly to avoid this but it didn't help. I was just wondering what was the proper way to keep the male show dogs hair underneath. So I guess I should let it grow back then and do as you ladies do. Liza |
