Suggested Reading???? While I don't have any desire to show, I LOVE to come to this section and admire the pics and read about the successes, etc. There certainly are some beautiful dogs on here! That said, about the only thing that I understand is that they are looking for the dog that best represents the standard. Could someone recommend some reading/websites that would explain showing in laymans terms. Not all the intricate details, just the basics on the different steps and points, etc. The simpler the better. I hope this year to go to a show. Especially since I've seen all the good shopping in the background when looking at some of your pictures! :p I'd appreciate it. |
questions I would look at as many web sites as you can..I would not buy any books unless you are interested in showing..it can get expensive. Do a search on "dog showing"..and go to some shows as you mentioned..you will love the excitement of it all. |
Thanks Pat. I was afraid I was going to have to post one of those 'nobody loves me so I'm going to leave YT' threads!! heeheh Just kidding. I had searched dog SHOWS and didn't get much. Didn't even enter my mind to put the ING on the end. I did a quick lookup and I think I can find something to help. I don't want to show, but I'd like to check out a couple of shows, and don't want to walk into them completely ignorant. And I also just like to understand some of the YT posts better. After all, I'm close enough to go to the Garden next year... Thanks again! |
check out these links and maybe they will help you understand what they are looking for in a Yorkie http://www.ytca.org./education1.html This one will help you with some more information and the point system http://www.akc.org/events/conformation/index.cfm |
Hi You might treat yourself to a years subscription to the Yorkie magazine..6 issues per year. It will keep you informed of the winners and lots of pic's... The good thing about going to a show is you need to know nothing to have a ball. Buy a $3 or $5 catalog (important)..that will list the names of all the enteries and you can keep up that way..sit or stand next to someone who isn't showing and busy..ask a few questions...BELIEVE me Yorkie people like nothing better then talking about Yorkies. When I come across a newbie who wants to talk..I have my championship title in "talking" Yorkies. PS...in August, the Delaware club is having their big specialties...days of nothing but Yorkies.. |

That's a really great reason to be reading....I've learned so much here myself but man...to have it on hand would be great too. Even us Peons that don't breed love reading about it...and who knows - maybe one day ?....... |
